Not giving them a pass. But where else can we go? Not too many options for a 6MT. Miata? No. More expensive Cayman with no back seat? No. Blackwing (tempting). Supra? (it's still a BMW). Mustang? (No!!!).

We will see how "crappy" it is. As recently as the OG F87, they were just fine. Mine (and all the OGs I've driven) is relatively direct and precise. But my 2016 F80 M3 and several F87 M2Cs I've driven weren't as good. The common theme there is the S55 and slightly different geometry and installation angles/measurements from the N55. The same thing could be a factor (and a difference) in feel between the G80 and the G87.

Fingers crossed that BMW gets it right!

If not, I'll give Auto Solutions or Rogue a call, spend a few hundred bucks, and resolve the issue.

I was finally able to test drive a G80 with the 6MT last week and it was OK.The clutch weight felt about medium resistance. There was a little bit less resistance than my E46 M3 but not much and i was OK with the way it felt. One thing that was quite a bit different was the shifter. The throw was quite a bit shorter on the G80 which makes for some very fast shifting.I actually didn’t have a problem with the gearbox and it wasn’t notchy which is the biggest issue with manual gearboxes.

I went with a blackwing. Yes it’s 4 doors but it’s still pretty compact. Better tranny, suspension, steering. Engine is toss up where LF4 has more power out of box but s58 can be tuned so easily. Problem is the slush box limited to 400ish tq. Looks is a toss up. M2 seemed to have taken too much roids where blackwing got an ugly rear but decent front. Lastly blackwing has normal rear parking breaks. Not some dumb floating crap. Lastly blackwing I believe will be better in track since it’s only couple secs slower than a m4 xcomp around vir. Doubt m2 will be close.

CT-4 BW is indeed tempting, its manual transmission and handling character gets big praise from every reviewer I care to follow. I actually like the practicality of the rear doors and the option to have the ventilated seats over the G87 but the GM quality (or lack thereof) makes me nervous. Plus the interior looks super basic for a $60k+ car. BMW interior and build quality is on another level compared to Cadillac in my opinion. I am also more confident in an M car's resale value over any Cadillac model so the G87 is to me also the better value play.

I can tell u build quality isn’t there but I also think maintenance on these cars aren’t too complex and probably cheaper than a bmw. Not to mention warranty is 6yr/70k miles. Since this is the last hurrah for this type of car before we all drive soulless battery cars, I’ll keep mine for a long time thus no worry on resale. It would be nice to save up for a GT4 manual to have with my 4 door but I doubt my pocket and wife would agree.

Have you gotten it yet? Or is it on order? I've been tempted, bit I actually like the looks of the G87, and I'm partial to coupes.

And unfortunately the Porsche is 75% of Miata ND in terms of feel of manual box

Yep I got it. But I’m sitting on 10 plus inches of snow and this whip only has the stock ps4 so no go until April. Staring at it in the garage in the state of MN…

I have to say, I drove one at a dealer event a couple months ago and was very impressed.

Here is the car being taken out of the trailer in 5 inches of snow. Had to wash her so when it was 36 degrees - threw on a jacket and made it happen.

I actually ended up with a CT5 Blackwing. Yes bigger than my old OG M2. Was worried about the size but I been driving an X5 and a Ridgeline for a while so didn’t feel so big. I was on couple list for a CT5 BW and was going to just quit and just pull a trigger on a CT4 BW in April. how ever a random deal fell through and a dealer in MI said first one to ping gets the car. I got really lucky. It is extremely hard to get a CT5 BW. Dealers have on avg 3-5 on wait list and they get maybe 1 a year. And then after they are made, they go into the abyss of GM parking lots where they literally sit for 2-10 months. It seems most people have been waiting 12 plus months from ordering on an allocation to delivery. I got mine from a cancel transaction in two weeks. When I fired up the CT5 BW first time, I almost shit my pants on how loud it was. My buddy has a m4 comp s58 and that sounded 1/3 as loud. My OG m2 sounded 1/2 as loud and that usually annoyed my neighbors in the morning. Will have to turn her on with garage door closed to not upset the hood.
Sucks I can’t drive her until spring but the BW come with a FREE 2 day track school in NV. Signed up for May. I’m intrigued to learn about what 668 hp on RWD can do without me getting arrested.

I have driven it a whole 100 ft…stupid snow. But I have to say if the car drives anyway like it sounds, it’s going to be bonkers.
