Toronto Red in real life - disappointed!
I have ordered a TR M2 but hadn't seen the colour in real life until today. My local dealer had an M4 in Toronto Red so took the opportunity to check it out.
I was very disappointed I found it dull and as has been said before, reminded me of Heinz tomato soup i.e a chalky orange red. I prefer fuller reds such as Imola. I cannot see myself walking away from my parked M2 in TR and looking back with pride so will be changing my order. The issue now is to what! ZB: no..had a YMB F82 and wouldn't go there again. If a darker blue was available I would go for that. BG: considered this for my wife's 230i but just reminds me of the primer I used when repairing cars as a kid. We went for Thundernight and very pleased with it. AW: maybe but not a great fan of white cars. (edit: forgot about my Z4M Coupe in white over red...the only car I regret selling!) That leaves BSM and although I could do without the upkeep looks like this will have to be the colour. It would be my first black car. Dravit Grey would have been a great option. I did see a new M3 in aventurine red at a decent price but want the manual for more driver engagement and that's not available for the M3/4 in the UK. Almost gets me wondering about a manual F87 instead. Last edited by blueray_ms; 01-29-2023 at 07:13 AM.. |

I have also ordered TR without seeing it. Prior to that I had read all of the comments on here which at least prepared me for what to expect. Last weekend I visited a local dealer to look at an M4 convertible and a coupe both in TR. One was outside (it was a very overcast day) the other inside under artificial light. Once it’s clear/sunny I will go back to see TR again.
Basically I have ruled out the other 4 colours which leaves me with TR. My 2nd choice would be BG, but I cannot see me changing from current position |

As I am 4th in line at my dealer I should have the opportunity to see the colours on an M2 in real life. At least that is what I am hoping before I have to fix my order.

I'm a big fan of TR. I have a TR X4M on my lot right now and I love looking at it. If, however, I chose not to go with TR it would be AW. My M Road is AW and I love it.
Keep in mind that you can wrap it in any color you like, or go with a stealth PPF and have something pretty different. |

Or, you can enter the 21st Century and Autoflex it for less than the price of a wrap ..... in ANY color you want.
www.autoflexcoatings.com I'm 4.5 years into my San Marino Blue F87, and it is still amazing to look at! |

Too bad we don't have Mineral White as an option. That was the color of my first BMW [a 1996 328iS that I picked up in Munich through European Delivery].
A lot more depth than Alpine White. All in all, the G87 color choices are SOOOO disappointing. Technoviolet, Hellrot, Avus, Laguna Seca, Boston Green .... so many historically appropriate signifigant colors they could have picked for the last fully ICE M car. I have been leaning TR, but need to see it in person. I would take any of those colors above instead in a heartbeat. |

I’m in the same boat. Not available anywhere reasonably close to me. I would give it a shot.
Not sure which color I would get sprayed. Oh! I know! I’ll get BG and have it sprayed Smurf Blue. Then if I don’t like I can peel it off. 😆 |

TR on the G87 looks good in this photo that was clearly taken at dusk. I feel the size of the vehicle definitely plays a part as you can have too much of TR.

Think the only solution for me is to wait until I can see the colours in real life on an M2 and make a decision then even if that means moving down the pecking order with my order. |

Regarding the G82 M4, it has the availability of the full individual paint palette. That would be the only way to go. FYI, the G87 will see individual paint eventually. |

I saw TR for the first time yesterday at our local BMWCCA chapter's annual meeting, on a brand spankin' new M4. I LOVED it, and I'm not a "red" guy. It's not really red, it's not really orange, it's somewhere in between, which like many other recent BMW colors, changes quite a bit with different lighting. If I were in the G87 market it would easily be my choice.
I highly suggest that any of you considering it seek out an example on a dealer's lot to see it for yourself. Highly subjective as we see here - one prospective owner just can't do it, others love it. Everyone's gotta decide for themselves..

If you want to see the real TR, take any photo you get or one, and change your screen filter to yellow. When it begins turning orange you've then got yourself a representation.
I'm glad I've seen all colors now in person. It's absolutely necessary. |

Taste is personal so choose what makes you happy. The only objective thought I have is that Toronto Red is not red. It's orange, or at least very orange adjacent.
If that's what you like, go for it. Just don't roll the dice hoping your car will be delivered looking like Imola. |

Honestly, BMW failed hard with M2 color options.
- The 'special' ZB color is a fail and just doesn't work with the boxy lines - BG look like a primer as if they forgot to paint the car - AW is just so flat, at least have Mineral White as an option... - TR looks odd and more orange than expected - Black is honestly the best option, especially as it hides the body lines I can't believe there's no blue like Portimo on the G42 or Tanzanite / Arctic Race Blue available on the higher M's. The old M2 with LBB fit well too even. Isle of Man Green is also a stellar color that's not available. Thundernight honestly makes the G42, such a unique color that works well with the body lines. |
