"This isn’t the kind of BMW M2 that we’re used to. The last one was small, potent and at the very peak of what an M car has always been. But this new one has some stats that suggest a new direction." Yep, more or less: "I can gripe, but the fact is I really enjoyed driving the M2, certainly more so than the previous F87 model. Some of the raw honesty and compactness of that car is gone, and the new one weighs and costs too much, but the G87 is the more polished and better resolved machine – exciting and incredibly capable when you’re driving for fun, surprisingly refined and sophisticated when you just want miles to melt away. In an era where it must share a stage with a plug-in hybrid SUV, the new M2 feels like a more grown-up version of a reassuringly familiar formula, an evolution at a time of radical reinvention. I’ll take mine with the manual gearbox, please."

costs too much? highly disagree ... at MSRP this car is a great value relatively speaking. Not much else out there at this price point that can compare. Civic Type Rs are selling for $10k-$15K over nowadays.
The weight is a bit excessive for it's size but these new cars have a lot of gadgets and safety features that add tons of weight. The only real competition is from within BMW, with the M240i, but that's not a real M car. |

The biggest barrier to putting down money for an allocation is me experiencing the drive myself. I miss the days when you can easily test M cars on dealer lots.
I’ve said this in other threads, but as someone who is between 2-3 options, it is difficult for me to commit without personal experience. I’m hoping by end of the summer my dealer would have at least one available for test drives. After all, isn’t that the whole point of BMW HEA allocations? Too bad now HEA’s are getting sold as stock… Different times indeed, maybe I will come back to this thread and answer the prompt directly in due time.
