Ultimate Care Maintenance Plans

Anyone have any thoughts about the maintenance plans and BMW Ultimate Care.

Those of you with prior M car experience in F8x and G8x, how many miles will we typically get out of front and rear brakes on a car that isn’t tracked? I’m seeing in the M3/M4 threads, talk of 10-12K miles out of the rear because they are so small. Then I’m hearing of full brake changes (assume pads and rotors) of $5K from the dealer.

I’m just wondering if it makes any sense at all to get any of the Ultimate Care packages? I’m thinking about MAYBE getting the lowest one at $850 but that only covers 3 years.

I’ve been doing brakes since I was 16, and it’s not that bad of a job. Doing a brake job on the M’s doesn’t look that bad at all, from what I’ve seen. The pads for the front are the most expensive at ~$300/set, rears MUCH less. And I’m hearing 2 piece rotors will soon be available for around $300’ish. Also, I imagine new rotors won’t be required on every pad change. Can these drilled rotors be turned, or do they just have to be replaced? The thought of paying a dealer $5K for a set of brakes is bananas.

Any thoughts from those much more knowledgeable for us new M owners?

Agreed good topic as I'm currently debating this as well. Dealership (finance Mgr not CA) pushing the ultimate care package plus 2 road vantage packages, 1 focusing on consumables and 1 on wheels and tires. Seems like ultimate covers all recommended services plus a few big things such as brakes / rotors. Road vantage has some overlap but also has some things the ultimate does not like belts / hoses / battery etc. That one not really seeming worth it. The other road vantage one covers wheel or tire damage from road hazards on oem or after market wheels. Again that one doesn't really seem worth it to either. Which circles back to the ultimate care one and whether or not that one is worth it as well. Definitely looking forward to feedback from prev M owners on the subject.

Hmmm, Finance Mgr pushing some sort of warranty hard? Unheard of. 😂
I remember the days when brakes were included in maintenance and replaced at no charge. At some point, that changed and we either pay for the brakes or buy the possible overpriced insurance. The real wildcard here is, what is typical M brake life on a car that is excercised well, but not necessarily tracked?

Why are these plans so expensive? $2700+ to add on year 4 of just maintenance? What would I normally spend in year 4 for maintenance that would exceed $2700?

It's crazy to me that this is the price just for maintenance, and then there's separate pricing for the actual warranty extensions.

So the first Ultimate care + adds wear items. Wiper blades, brakes and clutches. This could be worth it if you drive enough or hard enough to wear a set of brakes. If you don’t drive much then it’s likely not worth it.

The other levels add the regular maintenance (oil changes and inspections) and wear items for additional years beyond the first 3 years.

If you put on the miles then yes it’s cheaper than paying later. But if you don’t put on the miles, then I don’t think you will come out ahead. Since the car is in control of it’s maintenance you have to drive the cars lot of miles and hard for it to want service. Also the BMW service windows are long.

I added the upgrade to have the wear items covered for the first 3 years. ultimate +. I should be able to wear through brakes in that time as the excitement of me driving it on track and such will be new. After the first 3 years I could see myself not driving it as much as I get other cars and so I will likely just get the extended warranty at that point.

Also, you can add this later after purchase. Some people have waited years into ownership and then added it before needing their brakes done, and paid just a prorated amount for the plan and gotten their brakes done. Also you can negotiate these prices, if your dealer doesn’t want to play ball, then other dealers like Steve Thomas are known to give deals on all of these packages.

The finance guy told me if I changed my mind on any of these to come to him because they get commission on it. That really told me all I needed to know about this being worth it or not

following this thread for an informed M owner opinion. im thinking its not going to be worth it especially if theres some decent aftermarket options available soon for brakes.

Haven't owned a manual car in a while, so I did it for the clutch, lol. I know for a fact that won't be cheap, although what are the chances I need a new one in 4 years? Brakes are a bonus item I'll certainly use, given my driving style.

With the ability to cancel within 60 days for full price refund, I personally canceled the RoadVantage WearCare plan as well as the wheel and tire plan but kept the ultimate care +2 plan. Figured having all the required maintenance plus brakes / rotors as an option for the full 5 years made it worth it.
