Trackcross Anyone? Jan 13 @ Summit Point!

I have never done this type of event, but seems very interesting. It is essentially a combination of track driving with autox timing, not quite a time trial though.

The course is set up on part of the track, so not lapping the full course. Standing start, running finish, best of 6-8 runs, possibly more.

The good parts of this format, for some, are:
  • You are the only car running the course or at maybe 20-30 secs ahead of the next car, so no worry about passing or yielding or about slower/faster cars. Let the timing speak for itself.
  • You don't have to worry about brake pads or fluids, because it is essentially a half-lap run and then you cool down waiting for your turn to run again. So, there isn't much of a stress on the car, not even the tires in this format.
  • There are no work assignments as in autox. You just run

And a sample run:

In this case, the NCC has a great program to start. The instructors are very well trained and highly experienced. You can read more about it here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LUl...ew?usp=sharing

Also, the PCA has an excellent program as well. Their novice program starts in March, and similarly they have excellent instructors: https://pcapotomac.org/activities/dr...education/hpdc

These two local clubs offer the best ones for starting up. Alternatively, I would highly recommend the BMW’s M school with their cars at Greenville M Performance Center. I will be there in March.

I think people who don’t take their cars to the track, either for autox or HPDE, are doing themselves a disservice
