Oil cooler relocation...

Okay, all this talk about the lower cooler on the car, paired with my want for a splitter, has me thinking about relocating this thing. I have searched the internet, and I can't find anything talking about doing this, or if it's really been done outside of a purpose-built racing car.

I don't think there is enough room up front to relocate the cooler, so I think the rear might be viable with some smart ducting and perhaps an aux fan.

Another idea I think Jackie Ding Ding is exploring is covering the cooler altogether with probably some type of air gap to allow flow still. The GT500 and I guess the c7 corvette have similar setups to this.

What are everyone's thoughts on the matter?

If you feel like you *have* to move it, stand it up and put it in front of the radiator.

I'm just going to build a rock screen from SS mesh and put that on both sides of the oil cooler.

Having the auto, I already have the transcooler there... I think 3 layers may be a bit much up there.

Here are some pictures; I guess there would be some room above it. I would think that would provide enough cooling; the radiator may suffer a little, but how much that might be, I'm not sure.

I've stacked rad/condenser/trans cooler/oil cooler with no ill effects.

Are you going to track the car or is this strictly a street car?

Relocating it is a guaranteed way to void your engine warranty. Not worth it, just protect it, one and done.

That location looks way more vulnerable than the oil cooler to taking a large hit.

I've talked to some people on the track regarding the car as a whole. They said if they have an out of warranty engine failure but they have track insurance, they will just steer the car into a wall because it'll be harder to determine if the engine blew up before or after the collision.

It will see Track, I'm going to aim for 3-4 times a year, next event is next month actually.

Great, track your oil temps with the cooler in both positions and report back. It'd be valuable to real world data.
