A small tip about climate control without touchscreen

When I did delivery, the Genius suggested a faster way to get to climate control without touching the screen. It was a nice tip so I'll pass it along.

Pin climate control as your first pinned app. Then you can use the dial without looking. Push the dial "forward," then press down, and it will open the climate app.

I prefer voice control most of the time, but haven't figured how to adjust climate for passengers. So this dial trick lets passengers adjust their heated seats, etc.

I did this same exact thing, simply create the shortcut for climate control as the first one as it's most important IMO.

Simply go to the app selection, and hold Climate Control for a few seconds and it will ask to PIN it as a shortcut.

Yep that's exactly what I do. In fact here's my set up just for reference. Since the short cuts aren't quite as convenient as before, they're things I might need from time to time with vehicle settings and climate control being first two slots.

So far I haven't changed from this config in a while.

Just say “adjust passenger temperature to XXX…”, for example. The passenger microphone should allow them to adjust it themselves by using the “Hello BMW” key word, as opposed to the steering wheel voice control button, but I haven’t verified that yet.

Hmm, I tried something like that and it didn't work. I'll try again, TY.

Depending on who is speaking in the car when voice control is active, it will adjust their seat. Both seats have mics right above them so it knows who is talking and who is sitting where. Any other questions feel free to ask. I’m a bmw genius myself

The passenger can say the wake word. and then the command. And the mic should know that it’s the passenger talking.
You can say I’m hot, I’m cold, a list of commands

I spent some time doing the mad hermit thing, talking to my car.

You can change all the settings you need via voice, as far as I can tell.

These worked:

"Set passenger heated seats to medium"

"Set rear temperature to 65" (because Fahrenheit, don't judge me)

"Set passenger temp to low"

"Set fan to Medium"

The only thing I didn't bother figuring out was the rear vent routing, because seriously who cares lol. But I'm sure it's doable.

Side story. One day, I spent some time bullshitting with a Genius off the clock. Bottom line is that I wouldn't want their job, it's really aggravating. "Clients" can be total dicks sometimes, and the BMW training material is sometimes... less than great. Kinda jams them up.

The older I get, the more I realize that almost everybody's job is harder than it looks to outsiders. Especially anything where you have to deal with customers. Yeah, some people are incompetent, too. But it's sometimes hard to tell the idiots from the ones who were setup to fail.

I figure being nice means I won't find a dead rat in my glovebox someday lol.

There's absolutely no way I would want to work with the public in any way, let alone a "genius" at a BMW dealer.

I'm glad I work behind tall fences and barbed wire and an army (Nuclear Power Plant).

When I worked in an airline IT office job, I used to take volunteers from my team down to the airport at Christmas to perform customer service work to help out the employees at the airport at the busiest time. That is certainly an eye opening experience in both how you can make a difference and how some people can not be pleased or helped, no matter what you do.

I can't get the voice control to just turn the AC off but leave the climate control running ie the equivalent of pressing the AC button on pre iDrive 8 cars. If you say turn off air con it shuts off the whole climate control. I can do it manually on the climate screen and I've created a shortcut to do it. But the voice control won't do it - or at least I can't find a form of words that will make it do it and I've tried all sorts.

Much was made of the fact that the loss of the physical buttons wasn't an issue because you can do everything by voice. Well it seems you can't turn the AC off by voice. That's not good enough BMW.

I never even thought to try that, it's not a setting I ever change. Good catch.

Before I throw in another thread, I am wondering if anyone found the correct "phrase" to have voice recognition turn on/off the A/C (as opposed to overall climate). I somehow cannot - it argues it is on/off when it isn't. Though I may have fumbled at some point to possibly affect the action using another phrase I just can't remember to cannot reproduce. I am wondering if it is simply the word that the system recognises as the a/c?

No luck. it argues aircon is on/off regardless of right/wrong . I also note the climate command turns everything off. I found thishttps://fullfocus.notion.site/BMW-iD...23d9c437c84261 from a reddit post for 8.5 and will spend some time working through it in case some o it is the same as 8.0, maybe play around with the words around aircon, climate etc. I have setup a shortcut to the a/c on off specifically but really want that voice command!
