How often are the oil change intervals under BMW's free maintenance plan?

Are the free oil changes just at 10,000 and 20,000 miles?

Is it worth doing one after break-in and just paying out of pocket?

I’d do it after break in for a piece of mind. Can’t hurt. Also, you should get 3 oil changes, 10k 20k and 30k for free, if you drive enough in the first 3 years

Worth noting it’s 10k miles OR 1 year. Whichever comes FIRST.

I changed my oil on my own at 2000 miles for piece of mind. Then my dealer changed it at 4500 miles but 1 year after taking delivery. No where near 10k miles but they changed it for free based on time

My brief version response is my SOP -- and has been my SOP for a number of new motorcycles and cars I've owned since starting back in the early 1970's -- at least a post break in service is a good thing. (This is also what my motorcycle and auto tech buddies advised me to do.)

For my 2023 M2 and 2024 230i xDrive my understanding is the scheduled/CBS (condition based services) are free for 3 years, 30K miles.

Nominally I think these are to happen at 10K mile intervals although as TJZ67201 noted at 10K miles or one year intervals.

My M2 received a free running in service (RIS) at 1200 miles (which is end of break in). There is no such service offered by BMW for my 230i.

However my SOP is to have an early oil/filter service (or two) done so for my 230i (which I bought Dec. 1, 2023) I paid out of pocket for an oil/filter service -- with no reset of the CBS system -- at 600 miles then had another out of pocket service done at 1800 miles. I will have another done at 5K miles then whenever the CBS service calls for another service which might be at 10K miles or lower miles -- it is condition based after all -- or when one year anniversary of the car comes around.

Even for the M2 I had the oil/filter service done at 600 miles then got the free RIS at 1200 miles then had the oil/filter service done again at 5K miles. So far the car has just over 6K miles. I doubt I'll put another 4K miles on it before April 14 this year thus it is unlikely the CBS will flag a service before April 14 this year and in that case I'll have the M2 in for a 1 year service (which should be free) then.
