Incorrect, its over 200lbs for the RWD. The AWD version is within 50 lbs of an automatic mustang gt premium

Even still, 123lbs is a massive difference. I wouldnt take an AWD personally if its not your daily driver. Most people seem to think they need AWD when they actually just need better tires most the time. Get rid of those shitty run flats if you got them imo

Edit: the article you linked does say it’s a 123 lbs difference?

I really don’t think it’s that big a difference.

Especially as a percentage of the overall car weight. The RWD is no lightweight and adding a tiny bit that provides crazy extra grip just a different choice for some.

We’re forced to take the AWD here in the UK and I’ll admit I’d be leaning towards the RWD if it was offered. However if it handles anything like the old M140i (I’m sure it’s much more stable) then I’m happy with the AWD because it makes me feel so much more comfortable giving it the beans.

At the end of the day.

It’s just over half a passenger and it’s not even the weight of my partner. It’s the weight distribution that you would feel more, at the front end turn in, than the weight itself.

Luckily Michelin PS4S on my car, no run flats here.

  1. More playful rear end
  2. Lighter
  3. Better steering feel
  4. Less expensive

I'd never drive AWD unless you have the option of switching to RWD, like M3/M4/M5

If I did not have to use my BMW in the winter here in New England I would go with RWD. That said, this car feels good for AWD since it's rear biased.

My other car has a 6MT, so that fortunately fixes my manual needs (and it's a wonderful short-throw one at that). The one really good thing about an automatic, whether the ZF in our cars, or the PDK in Porsches, is that you can learn to left-foot brake. It will take a fair amount of time to gain sensitivity in your left foot, and to have that as your muscle-memory reaction, but it's much quicker. It helps me that I was taught to left-foot brake with AT cars when I first started driving way back in 1962!

Old thread but is there a way to code the AWD to go rwd like the M3/4? It's gotta be just a setting since the chassis and drivetrain are basically the same

Nope. There is something called xdelete which I don’t know if it works for the g42. But the m xdrive that Allow you to turn awd on and off most likely have hardware differences

AWD Launches

AWD 0 to 60

Not constantly replacing rear tires with RWD

Much more confidence driving in bad weather

AWD saves me from my own stupidity and moments of less than safe driving

If you had the option like the M3/4 comp then this thread wouldn't exist. Besides the extra weight there'd be no argument on which to get. You'd just get the AWD and run RWD unless the weather was bad or you wanted to launch better etc etc.
