Understood but the "man-machine" connection is not the same. Just hope THAT doesn't get lost in these decisions. A clever manufacturer could clean house if other major vendors abandon ICE.

I had noticed the next gen M8 will only be a Gran Coupe, but that the 8 series would be available as a Coupe and Convertible.

I think I've figured out why, the battery system is too big to fit into a shorter wheelbase car than the M5 which of course the M8 will be based on.

Is a manual M240i in discussion/planning?

Most all of the development work is already done from the new 2025 Z4 manual (a B58 sending power through a reworked BMW 6 speed to a M240i rear axle assembly). Then, in the comments

“Sadly it will not happen until pigs fly. Therefore, never…”

I sure hope so! The reported take rate of manuals for the M2 is ~50%. Not sure the M240i would get that high since there is an AWD option but the take rate for the M3/M4 manual is ~20% so guessing a M240i RWD manual would end up in the 30-40% range. That's pretty significant and would likely increase the overall 2-series volume as it would steal market share from the other sub $55K sporty cars with a stick; Toyota, Honda/Acura, VW, etc.

I would seriously consider trading my AWD auto for a RWD stick IF it had the manual from the 2025 Z4. For me (52yo father of 3) its simple...I'm too old for a Supra and too young for a Z4. I'm probably too old for the M240i but I love smaller cars AND the rear seat option in a pinch. I also still swap my summer and winter wheels every spring and fall so RWD is not a huge problem for me in MA.

So if the business case for this variant makes sense, could there be an agreement with Toyota that prevents it?

BMW. Make this car!

Isn’t Canada also getting the new B58?Didn’t you also confirm that the only exterior change would be the optional iconic glow kidney grille?Do you also see any new exterior colors for the 3 series?

The F30 had a manual/AWD combo with the B58 so making a G20/G21 M340xi 6mt should possible and that would be one hell of a Dad car!

Sorry, I didn't mention Canada and the lit kidneys because they are very low on my list of important things.

The new colors will be the same that are being added on other models. I haven't yet seen any whose first appearance would be on a G2x model.

WTF....2435 kg curb weight for the G90 is 300+ kgs more than my F pace SVR (which is already a heavy car... even if "light" for being an SUV compared to others in its class).

An alternative take is the G90 weighs 52 lbs more than the Lucid Air Sapphire, which has a positively massive (and heavy) 118kWh battery, which allows it to have a 427 mile range despite having nearly double the power (1,234 hp) of the M5.

I was looking at the specs for the Canadian MY25 M440i Coupe and it lists specific exhaust info in the standard specs. This is the info with the option code at the beginning,

1D1 Exhaust technology SULEV30
5AL Active Protection
PMTECHN.

When i did a google search it lists this as being some kind of exhaust particulate filter,

https://www.avl.com/documents/10138/...0_Solution.pdf

Does this mean that the new B58 TU engine for the US and Canada is now getting the exhaust particulate filter that Europe has had for quite a while now?

I plan on ordering a new M340i this year so i am interested in knowing if the MY25 will come with the particulate filter. All the reviews i have read mention that it ruins the exhaust sound.

Here is the Canadian ordering guide with the info if anyone is interested.

The top post now lists all planned versions of G45. The most notable part is what it doesn't include: there will be no 30x outside North America, or any diesel larger than 20d. BMW will likely push the hybrid as the sweet spot for Europe.

so.....the L6 diesel is phasing out officially. I'm expecting not to see a 330d or M340d again on the upcoming G50.

ynguldyn I’m now reading that the g87 LCI will happen in calendar year 2026. Is that what you’re seeing also? This would mean the M2 CS will not be based on the LCI.

Seems odd to have the M2 LCI a year after the 2 series LCI.

This is complicated.

First of all, the situation with G42/G87 proves that I should revisit previously posted information more often because what I'm seeing right now is not at all what it appeared before. In detail:

- Non-US, non-China M240i RWD will soon be dead (summer EOP)
- There are hints that the old B58 will not be US emissions compliant for MY2027, so US M240i could be dead at the end of MY2026 (I'm not seeing B58M2 in G42 anywhere - yet?)
- Now, it would be logical to suggest at this point that MY2027 will be the LCI year, however, the EOP dates for other models extend way beyond that. US 230i goes to the end of calendar 2027. All other models, including G87 - to 2029.
- At the same time, I do see a few unknown future models of G42.

What this means: it is certain that there will be no LCI in 2025. However, there's no strong evidence of LCI in 2026 or at any other time either.

If I am reading your info properly, there is no G45 hybrid option for USA.
