rear fog lights
Does anyone know if the g42 comes with rear fog lights? On my f22, I was able to modify the light switch and code them so i could turn them on. Not that I really needed them very often but they are kind of cool.

I would suspect so, it's a requirement here in the uk to have fog lights

If you look at the light switch cluster, you will see that there are two 'blank buttons' on the far left that you cannot depress. Photos of the light switch cluster on European models show one of these buttons has a fog light symbol. Based on experience with prior US models, likely you need to remove the switch cluster and take it apart so that you can cut off tabs on the button that keep it from being depressed. You would then need to code the car for rear fog lights, also as in past models.

The front fog lights are automatic when you turn the wheel but you can't manually turn them on like the F chassis cars. It sucks

I did the button tab thing and coded on my prior X2M35i.
But I was able to figure it out. I need the coding info for this vehicle. |

No idea why they'd give you less options.. Even if they just included it into iDrive settings or something it would be fine. Lol |

Just for reference, earlier US BMWs required a change in the headlight switch (to the Euro version) to be able to add rear fogs. Sounds like later models have the switch already in place, just need lights, wiring and coding to make it work.

I like this mod. I wish all U.S. cars had them. Of course then people would try to make both sides come on thinking it’s a defect, and defeat the purpose.

as per above... Did anyone figure this out? Do we actually have that bulb installed in that area and how do we turn it on. Thanks for any input.

Bit of an old thread, but I stumbled into it looking for an LED replacement bulb for my F87. In case it's helpful to any of you here is a detailed thread on doing this with the F87 (all steps required including coding locations which might give you a clue for the G87):
https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1450178 As you can see, the switch is present (just disabled), the bulbs work, and are installed. Bare minimum required is to modify the switch and code in the option. I've done that and it works a treat. Both sides light up on the F87. NO IDEA why that would defeat the purpose as was stated above in this thread. Seems better to me as it gives a sense of stereoscopic scale (how close you are). One side is better than none of course. Also useful for flashing at tailgaters. One thing I wasnt aware of before doing the mod: if your headlights are off, turning on any fog lights will turn on the headlights. So if you go to flash the rear fogs you may be flashing your headlights also... Front fogs can also be manually toggled on with coding (might be linked to in that same thread) but for us at least its just a -slightly- brighter angel eye and is overall completely useless. Maybe you G87 guys have better lighting in that regard... Hope this helps someone. Cheers. |
