harmonic vibration in 230i

hi, guys

I'm writing about my 2022 BMW 230i. Car comes with 19" wheels, limited slip rear, M performance Pkg, M Sport brakes, Dynamic Handling Pkg.

Around 2500 miles, my car developed what has been described as a harmonic vibration. Steering wheel does not shake, but has a very odd vibration similar to an electric toothbrush. Since it's under warranty, I am having BMW look into the issue. So far, they have road force balanced the tires, checked for bent rims and even put four new tires and wheels on from another BMW and the vibration is still there. Has anyone else experience this issue?

Did they do an alignment? My former vehicle had a wheel vibration issue, was due to mis-alingment.

I thought about that, too, but not sure if the pros did or not. I'll check in with my rep. Thanks for the tip.

Has your lane departure warning steering vibration module run amok?

It only does it above 70 MPH. Lane departure is tuned off.

Have you been able to test drive any other 230s?

Hey BZAP,

Have you resolved your harmonic vibration issue? If so what was it?
Thanks!!

I have what seems to be the same issue on a new car bought on 6/25/2024, the vibration showed itself the next morning getting onto the Interstate Highway starting at 65 and increased through 80 mph. My senior tech drove the car with me in it and said it’s not a wheel balance issue (19” tires out of balance shows at about 51 mph). Mine has a harmonic vibration in the steering wheel. He opened a BMW Engineering order, they had the car for 2 days and haven’t found anything. BMW asked for some tests/info, the dealer provided requested info, they gave me the car back, said it’s safe to drive while BMW studies the info.
