Taiga2002's G87 M2

It’s been 9 months since I purchased my 2023 M2 manual. 6,000 miles later, I’m very pleased with the car, although I am still learning to love it. This is certainly the most technologically advanced driver’s car I’ve purchased (ironic because my last sports car was an R35 GTR- the most “digital” car of its time).

I was never fond of the design from the leaked shots until the release in 10/2022, when I immediately placed a deposit.

I cannot thank AutoTecknic enough for working with me to develop a catalog of high quality dry carbon parts for the M2.

So far…

Exterior:
-Inozetek Laguna Blue Supergloss wrap
-Suntek Ultra full body PPF / ceramic coating
-70% Ceramic IR window tint
-AutoTecknic CSL style grill
-AutoTecknic CF front air inlets
-AutoTecknic CF side mirror caps
-AutoTecknic CF front canards
-AutoTecknic CF high kick rear spoiler

Suspension / wheels
-19” Forgestar F14 w/ Continental ECS02
-20” TE37 Ultra M-Spec for G8x w/ Michelin PS4S
-Silver’s Neomax coilovers w/ custom Swift springs and helper springs for additional rebound travel and adjustable front camber plates
-Motorsport Hardware stud conversion

Engine
-STOCK
-Active Autowerke Equal length midpipe

First “real” performance mod. Something more affordable but just as competent as the coilovers from KW, Ohlins, etc.

On the KW H.A.S., my car had the tendency to oversteer even with the staggered 275/295 Continentals on track. After reading jetbill thread linked here , I realized that these springs on the M2 softened the front spring rate (G87 front spring is stiffer the G80/82), and stiffened the rear spring rate (G87 rear spring is softer than the G80/82) explaining the oversteer tendency. I never took the car to the track on stock springs to have a point of reference, but I do recall it feeling more neutral on the street.

Thanks to Will at Silver’s Suspension NA, who has built several kits for F8X cars and MK5 Supras, both of which share nearly identical suspension setups to the G8x, we came up with a kit that would suit my needs for both the street and track and restore the neutral balance to the car. Front spring rate is 10k (nearly 2x the factory rate) and rear is 16k (slightly SOFTER than stock).

I then had the master himself, Robert at Chewerks, align the car. While driving to the alignment shop the car had an unsettling and quite scary bumpsteer over sharper bumps. Almost felt like the car was starting to hydroplane even through the road was completely dry. I thought I had ruined the car by dropping it too low, but thankfully this was attributed to a severe toe-out in the front and solved with a simple alignment. Although the SPL bumpsteer correction kit is still on my laundry list.

Front camber was set at -3.0 and I will adjust accordingly after the next track day. So far, the car feels more composed through the bumpy canyons and the extra droop achieved by the helper springs allows the suspension to eat mid-corner bumps without unsettling the car even with a significantly stiffer front spring rate. Most importantly, the ride is completely acceptable for the street and no more jarring than the stock suspension in “Sport” mode. Will report back after some track time.

Looks sick man & that's a nice shade of blue that you chose. I must say, that body color matched lower section of the front bumper LOOKS MUCH BETTER. It still amazes me how many people over look this & go straight to other parts of the M2. When this should really be one of the first areas they address.

Did you have to run spacers to get them flush - wheel to fender?
