Power Mods on 91 octane

Hello folks,
Very excited to join the S58 gang. I just placed an order on a 2025 M2 6spd. I am interested in building the car for reliable power on 91 octane. I will most likely unlock with Femto, tune with BM3, probably avoid meth/E85 and eventually upgrade the clutch. What parts are recommended for 650whp/650wtq build? Thank you for any advice in advance

The engine is already built/tuned for reliable power running 91 octane.

I haven't had a chance to try any yet but I believe -- based on my experience with other German sports cars -- that the engine would perk up some with 93 octane. But of course 93 would not bump the HP anywhere near the 650hp you seek.

One tune promises 200hp.

Not sure about 91 but Pretty sure an unlock with a stage 2 tune with just downpipes on 93 gets into the 600s. E85, port injection kits, etc into the 700s. Love the potential of this motor.

**for those with the 6MT, I highly recommend consulting with an experienced shop/builder due to torque limits of the stock transmission (aome of the tunes below, during to the torque limits, could cause harm to a 6MT)**

Stage 1 can net around 600whp/550wtq
Stage 2 on 93 can net 650whp/600wtq
Stage 2 on E blend can net 750whp/650wtq
Stage 2 on E85 with full E build (fuel pump, fuel system, intake manifold, etc) can net 800whp/700wtq

Full build with big single turbo...you can hit 1000whp

Caveat to the above, this is for ecu unlock and custom tune (they better the build and better and more experienced tuner will give best figures and reliability...possibly exceeding the figures I posted). Using piggyback, shelf tune or Bootmod3 or the like will give lower capabilities.

For those on a custom Stage 2 tune or better, I recommend a trans tune (MHD or XHP) for best results.

Would the minimal gains over a piggyback be worth it for a 6MT? I feel like at that price point you really should just splurge and upgrade the clutch.

I am not a supporter of piggyback nor shelf tunes (I put Bootmod in that group) I much prefer to use a known reputable tuner who is hands on and providing a custom tune for the car in the area.

That being said, you could definitely do an unlock with a custom Satge 1 or Stage 2 tune that will maximize the power and reliability for your car. Yes, upgrading clutch and flywheel (assuming there is an aftermarket upgrade) will help tremendously.

I'm running a manual M2 with a BM3 tune on 91. I think you are going to have to replace you clutch fairly quickly at that torque number. Most of the shops I talked to all agreed 550WTQ was about the max for the stock clutch. I have downpipes and midpipes. The shop tuned me at 550WHP/550WTQ with room to grow if I do my clutch. I have about 7,000 miles on it post tune and a couple track days. zero issues so I think they were right about the clutch to at least 550WTQ.

Who makes multi-disk carbon clutches for this platform?

With 91oct, you’re kind of stuck at Stg1 with most piggybacks (Carbahn may be different).
If you want to do DPs n other stuff (Stg2) you need to unlock the ECU.
Seems 91oct with piggybacks are hit/miss.

When you say Carbahn maybe different what do you mean? Asking because I’m considering Carbahn and intend to run 91 with everything else as stock

I see you are in Cali like me. There are several things you could do to get your octane to 93 octane and be able to take advantage of more aggressive tuning. You could blend in a couple of gallons of E85 into the mix. that would get you to an E20 even though BMW says you shouldn't go beyond a E15. I am running an E19 blend in my M2 and it is doing fine. You could run a couple of gallons of VP101 that is available from the pump, I am not sure if you have any VP Racing Fuel stations near by. You can also run some VP Racing Unleaded Octanium, just don't go over board with it. 3.5oz is all you need to get 91 octane to 93 octane with a 14 gallon tank.

Carbahn specializes in 91 octane, AND altitude, with their piggyback and full unlock tune.
