Advice on insurance repair? 😞

Hi all!

After some advice, my M2 was hit in a car park and the other party did the polite thing and left without leaving any details.

The damage was significant enough to push the headlight back resulting in a very tiny split in the wing. It’s also pinched the rubber seal around the headlight unit, a small bump in the bumper and a few scuffs (in the ppf).

I had just had it ppf’d a week prior and just had the running in service done. In fact, this was the first outing after the service!

Going through insurance, the body shop are estimating £6500 to fully repair. They want to replace the wing and headlight completely and re-spray the areas surrounding the wing (bonnet, bumper, wing, pillar). Doing this removes a lot of ppf which the insurer won’t cover the cost.

This leaves me with my excess to pay and getting the car ppf’d again (not cheap!)

I’ve had a paintless dent repair attempt but they confirmed that the split in the wing, small may it be, can’t be repaired and the alignment is slightly off. They did manage to realign the light and put the corner of the wing back to where it was supposed to be. The seal around the light does need replacing if it can without a new headlight?

I genuinely don’t know what to do, seems excessive what the body shop want to do and I’ll still have to pay a lot to get it how it was, or do I live with it?

Will it be the same after so much respraying?

Genuinely fed up with my luck at the moment 😞

First of all, I feel for your pain, I really do since same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago, just on the rear bumper after my break in service.

I had to go thru various shops to go for different opinions and also ask a shop that has the laser matched color so you don’t have to paint other adjacent panel that are in good shape.
I went thru my insurance and did let them know my car was PPF’d and since it’s involved in repair (tear down and re-apply), they gave me a supplement claim that wrote me a separate check. They did need my original PPF receipt and new quote on rear bumper though from installer, I understand UK insurance might be different from US here but try directly talk to adjuster and explain. Also try diminished value claim once your car is almost out of repair, since the car is brand new with this repair with your insurance.

Last of all, don’t let this beat you down. Plenty of things happen and people suck by doing hit n run. So another reason not to blame yourself, try to break this process down step by step and you will bounce right up.

Pic below for my incident:

Well, you need a headlight minimum. Without removing the headlight no say as to damage behind. I don’t understand “split” in the wing, I see a bend that may not be PDR repairable. I would wonder if the PPF protected your bumper.

Unfortunately you will likely have to disassemble to determine additional damage. I would check with more than one PDR service.

If all that works out you might just hold the money on the headlight in case your luck continues.

Edit: plus this paint is so new you really shouldn’t have to color match, the factory code should allow match for paint that has so little sun time - if you have to paint.

Yeah it sucks! Dent repair didn’t fix it, only viable option is to accept the hit on the insurance premium. It’s booked in for 8th August, just hope they do a good job!

In two minds of I should ppf it again. The paint on these things is so poor it chips really easily. No win situation for the consumer these days! Shame as these things are only getting more and more expensive!
