Cracked Windshield 2.0

Hey All,

So far it seems every other track day I get a cracked windshield. I've done about 12 track days with the M2 and have had 2 cracks seperate cracks on the first windshield, finally got it replaced and this last event got another crack.

This is a bit surprising as when I had my E92 M3 I have over 40 track days with zero cracks. I have also over 30 track days on my Mini GP and have had zero cracks.

Any one else expiring windshields that are easily cracked?

Have you thought of doing windshield PPF?

My windshield cracked from a small rock hitting it. The crack took a few hours to show up. I don't know how this relates to the track use you are experiencing but it happened.

Had 3 chips fixed so far and few more on my other car. I get them fixed as soon as I can after they happen. Cheaper than a full replacement. Putting PPF doesn't prevent 100% and it makes repairs more complicated. I live in the land of flying rocks. over 50% of vehicles I encounter, have a fully cracked windshield.

I haven't to be honest, the price vs getting a warranty windshield repair didnt seem like a good investment...

I also haven't had a windshield crack so many time. The last time I replaced my windshield I had two separate cracks from two separate track days. Seems any rock chips that hit the top section of the windshield seems to mess it up pretty good.

I have a mini gp that I track as well and the only time I needed to replace the windshield is because of all the peppering.

I have just over 13k mi & drive back and forth on I35 between Austin & Dallas nearly every weekend. I35 is just a mine field of debris & 18-wheelers. Knock on wood, no chips or cracks in the windshield despite it taking several hits that I thought for sure would've led to a crack.

That said, on 3 other vehicles I've used a Rain-X windshield chip repair kit with really good results (chips/cracks were filled & didn't spread). It worked as good or better than when I had chips/cracks "professionally" repaired. I think the Rain-X kit was $11 on Amazon.

Does this work on a cracked windshield? The crack starts at the top passenger side and goes about 1/3 down the windshield and ends right behind my rear view mirror.

At this point, I am going to replace it when it gets bad enough that it becomes an actual hazard :/

Cracks I had were probably much smaller than that.
