If they are, I honestly don’t think it is by much. Maybe a couple grand at most, timing isn’t great either trading in a RWD sports car with winter just around the corner. I get this matters more depending on region though also.

I bought a 2023 G80 for $76k new ($2k below msrp)
Just traded it 18mo later for $70k (8% depreciation) toward a new 2025 G87 at MSRP. Dealer is now reselling my used G80 for $82k.. $4K over its original MSRP, lol. Last edited by fanofbmwe46; 10-03-2024 at 09:20 AM.. |

Hold onto it. This is most likely the last gen of manual M cars! The odds it continues to go down in value are very slim. Might even go up in value in the future who knows.

Collector value is usually low production, which isn't a manual M2 - there are and will be tons of them - more than automatics (even though the ZF is superior by every objective measure)

in the medium term, say in years 4-12, as long as they continue to stay pretty reliable i think theres a realistic floor in the high 30s mid 40s depending on spec. its a lot of performance for the money in that range, assuming theres not serious costs associated with keeping them on the road (aside from normal running costs). indy colors with carbon pack will fare best, followed by standard colors with carbon pack and indy colors with no carbon pack, followed by enthusiast minded option list cars (carbon roof, manual transmission, carbon trim, etc) followed by the rest. sunroof automatic cars likely fare the worst. in the long term.... who knows. likely to never exceed MSRP in our lifetimes because they are making so many. CS cars will do fine as will individual colors, especially those with carbon pack. |

I get new car replacement on my cars. If my cars get totaled in the first two years they cut me a check for the full replacement value on the invoice.

Ironically, BMW dealers, at least in TX, seem to really low-ball BMW trade-in value & hike up the sales price of their used BMWs on the lot. I had 2 BMW dealers offer me $24k for my '22 330e with 31k mi (50% of MSRP) saying "we give kbb value". So I pulled up kbb in front of the guy that said $36-38k. He then came back from his managers office with an auto trader print out showing 2020 330e with 70k mi listed for $26k. I said that's great but that's 2 years older with more than double the mileage. Pulled up auto trader in front of him that showed multiple '22 330e with similar or slighty more mileage listed for $39 -$43k. He then said "thanks for stopping in, let me know when you want to make a deal".
2 months later I received $36k from the dealer at which I purchased my M2 (non-BMW dealer). Still a big hit for a 17-month old vehicle, but paired with the sales tax savings (saved $2,250) on the M2 purchase plus the tax credit when I purchased the 330e ($5800). It didn't turn out too bad.

Hate to say it - I've had a lot better luck from the Carmax's of the world on trade-ins. Once you have a Carmax quote in your hand, most decent dealers will match it.

Just looked up my 21 Z4m40i, carmax offer 40k. Caravana offer 46k
Have not been impressed with Carmax offers, I imagine people dump problematic cars there so they bake in some repair costs to offset. Carmax was lowest offer when we traded my wife’s CX5 earlier this year, they didn’t even want to look at it in person, ran vin/plate and spit out a non negotiable price which was substantially lower then KBB. |

Re: trade-in over email, I send high-quality photos, window sticker, maintenance records, etc. They always say the trade value is contingent upon them inspecting the vehicle. I've had their offer go up several times after seeing the vehicle in-person, and it's never been reduced. |
