M performance spoiler fitment

Is this right? Hard to tell but I feel like the right side of the spoiler is sitting too far forwards and the lines aren’t matching or is this just how they are?

More important is the bottom edge, if it lines up with no gaps to the trunk. Also the top edge if it's sitting on the trunk with no gap.

Small gap on top edge on the sides. Both sides but maybe worse this right side. Middle is pretty flush. They’ve told me this is normal and looking at other model cars with the M Perf spoiler seems similar gap.

They said any further back (as I asked about the lines, and the gap would be bigger)

Who installed it? If the car had it when it was brand new (ordered) then it was installed at the port and for sure it would have been done correctly using BMW's specified adhesive (looks like black caulking) per the work instructions. If it was done by a separate shop or even at the BMW dealer (spoiler orderded AFTER delivery of the car) there is a good chance they didnt use the specified adhesive and just regular automotive double sided tape which would explain the gaps.

It was done by bmw dealer and their “special qualified m performance parts guy” they did use the special adhesive because they complained how expensive it was and they didn’t realise they needed it until after they quoted me so they covered the cost. But yeah I can see the dark looking adhesive. Looks like it wasn’t applied across the entire surface though so that explains the gaps and that’s the same on other m per spoilers over seen at a different dealer on 3 series and 4 series.

Im mainly worried about the placement as per the first pics. Does the way the lines of the side of the spoiler match up properly

Yeah they messed up. Maybe too much adhesive where the gap is?

The fact that their super special “m parts” guy doesn’t know that betalink adhesive is used with m spoilers is a joke. BMW has specified that adhesive for all spoilers for a very long time

It was more the parts team didn’t realise when they quoted me and then they had a chat with him and looked at the work instructions. So fuck what now I gotta take it off 🥲🥲
Can anyone with a correctly fitted spoiler show me some comparable photos?

The fitment does not look too bad, I fitted mine myself and ensured it looked perfect.

Yours is not much different to mine.

Ps: it makes the car look so much better, mine is also thundernight

Ah finally it’s a not so bad comment haha. Thank you.

Would you mind sharing some photos of yours? I’d love to see the gap on the sides on top and also the matching of the lines on the side if that makes sense.

I’m in two minds one minute seems okay the next seems awful. The photos online are really tough

Here's mine. Gap looks a little off to me on yours, on the close up shots anyway.
As someone mentioned before, first red flag was them not knowing they need K1.
To remove they're likely going to send to a body shop, no dealer I've dealt with will remove these unless they're only on with 3M, they will likely warn you that the spoiler will warp and BMW likely won't reinstall, contact bmw for part warranty claim and they will get you a new one, do this before you actually remove it naturally.

If you use your finger and put pressure where the it meets the top of the trunk and the spoiler flexes inwards then it wasn't adhered properly.

if you need more pics, lmk.

Doesnt look too bad to be fair but looking at the AutoID website and just taking the image below from theirs shows it looks more flush.

Thanks this has been really helpful. This is what I mean it’s not an easy job for the dealer to get this off and replaced without damaging then trusting them to get it right next time. Shame I can’t get someone more qualified to do it. So thinking of just living with it. But seeing yours mine does seem sub par. Mine looks non OEM In comparison.

Thank you for those detailed pics. When you get a chance would you mind taking one from a similar angle to this and then I’ll know for sure what to do

Oh and there’s no flexing when pressing down.

honestly from this angle and distance yours looks completely fine. Unfortunately, it's one of those things that's going to irk you even though you're the only one who will ever notice it unless you point it out to someone.

In person , how big is that gap ? Like enough to fit a credit card in ..... perhaps a dime ?

Honestly, I would voice my disappointment to the service manager. Maybe ask for a partial refund or something. Show example pictures that it's supposed to sit perfectly flat. I highly doubt the dealership will offer to redo the install.

But I really don't think I would be willing to pull off the spoiler and attempt to remove all the adhesive. Unfortunately I would probably just live with that tiny gap. You win some, you lose some. It's barely noticeable.

Yeah it passes the credit card test tbh, I can only just get the corner in. I think it’s just the bonding is slightly further back and not at the edge. It’s actually not that bad tbh and I’ve measured it and it’s all perfectly equal side to side and front to back so more risk trying to correct it further. Just me being anal.

Just my two cents, but I think it looks fine.

I'm guessing the shop used too much adhesive on the right side and that is caused the spoiler to not seat fully on that side. If were me, I'd live with it for a week or two. If it still catches your eye, you could try applying some black RTV silicone to the gap and wipe away the excess. That should help hide the gap, but again, I think it looks fine as is.

Yeah I think it looks fine now too and I agree with your theory about too much adhesive on that side. It’s all good. Thanks for your help

From all the pictures it looks like yours needs to come towards the rear a tad.
