Dinan throttle booster install

Wanted to give everybody a quick review and "improved" install instructions for the Dinan (and likely other) throttle mappers out there.

First off - this thing is fun! All it does is remap your throttle response - but it sure feels like one hell of a performance mod.

This came off my F87 and it works just fine & the G87 uses the same connectors. All good.

To make installation a TON easier, you will want to remove the accelerator. To do this:

1. Remove the cap the red arrow is pointing to in the attached pic.
2. Use torx driver to remove the screw.
3. Push up on the entire accelerator and it will come free. It is held on by a metal tab that fits and clamps into the back of the pedal housing.
4. Now you can much more easily disconnect the plug behind the pedal & attach the booster.
5. Reinstall the accelerator. Screw it down, insert the cap.

Get the app, do the pedal relearn process for the app. Pair the wireless module then so the pedal relearn process for the wireless module.

Now you're done! Mount the wireless module wherever you want. I placed mine at the very top of the windshield.

Push the wires up behind the plastic trim in the footwell. Mount the module wherever you want it & be sure it is out of the way. You need to be able to see the LED indicator when doing the pairing and pedal relearn so don't tuck it away where you can't see it - at least until you're done.

Even the eco mode is an aok option. Actually is a little smoother at lower speeds than the stock setting. The max setting - total giggle inducing fun!!

Ordered!

Good thing about these things is there’s zero warranty risk. ECU has no clue. Just thinks you’ve got a really fast foot.

Thanks for the post and removing another ~$260 from my wallet.

HAHAHA! So I shouldn't tell you about the RGBW color changing DRLs that are really nice that I just bought? Best part is - you can keep the white DRL if you want to go back to OEM look.

Where with the yellow ones, you're stuck with yellow unless you swap them back out.

I am also thinking of getting the Monaco Motorsports CF & leather flat bottom steering wheel with heat! Not 100% sold on it yet.

Do you have MT or AT? Wondering if this is worth trying on my 3 pedal.

I have the manual trans. It's a scream, honest to Opeth. And Id never lie swearing on Opeth.

I was on the highest setting today and in M2 mode - it's ridiculous!

I mounted the module in my trunk space, where the battery is. There are 2 grommets in there on each side you can pop out and fish the wires thru. I drilled a hole in the grommet & sliced it from center to edge so I could fit it around the wire. Then I popped the grommet back in & it's a super tight fit, no leaks!

most excess wire is also in the trunk but I left some underneath the car for slack & ziptied it out of the way.

I forgot which thread I was responding to. Sorry about that (I am an old guy... LOL)

I stuck the module to the trim on the right side of the driver's footwell. I didn't want to hide it because I want to be able to see the LED on it while setting up, but also after set up in case anything goes wrong with the connection.

The wireless controller is mounted at the top of my windshield.

I've got mine temporarily just above the pedal. I like seeing the LED as well--particularly as I just installed it, I'd like to see that it's functioning as intended. However, I'd like a cleaner, neater mounting solution...I feel like a clip or sleeve would do.

That looks good there. Here is how I did mine.

That was my first instinct...I moved it just as a matter of trial and error--but will likely leave it where I have it now.

Yikes. Cables need to be ran under the carpet up the firewall and module needs to mount above / on the under-dash cover.

This may be the cleaner, neater solution for which I was looking. Realize a picture might not be that helpful--or possible. But how'd you physically manage to mount the module "above / on the under-dash cover?"

Yeah, I know. I'll get there. I went lazy man's route. Nothing moves or gets in the way for now. Plus now that I like it, I'll do a better install.

I used to think these throttle devices were BS until I got a Pedal Commander for my manual Bronco and it’s crazy how much more responsive it is. I couldn’t drive without it now. Definitely will look into this.

I do unplug and remove the one on my Bronco before going in for service. Maybe paranoid.

If you do the install on this one like BroDoze suggests (https://g87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...8&postcount=14), it would be hidden from view. And with the Dinan you have 5 included settings & #2 is OEM - the dealer will not know it's there.

But, a throttle mapper shouldn't cause a dealership to flag your vehicle. It won't void your overall warranty, either. But like all mods, if the mod itself causes the problem that needs repair, then your warranty wouldn't apply. I don't see a throttle mapper causing any problems & Dinan's tunes are pretty reasonable.

But #5 - that's gonna put a shit-eating grin across your face, if it doesn't make you downright laugh out loud! It's a howl for sure!

This would mod be too redundant to a piggyback tune like the Racechip?

I was wondering if Racechip, Carbahn adjust throttle response at all, too. Maybe someone can chime in? CarBahn Autoworks

I will say this, given how intense setting #5 is with stock power, I would think a throttle mapper + a chip tune will really be outrageous. In a good way!

I had this on my F87 that had a bootmode tune + Cart Jordan customization, and was full bolt on modded. That mapper gave the F87 that extra edge that made it all way more fun.

I could see settings 1 (which is -20%), 2 & 3 being quit usable with # 4 being a usable scream. Setting #5, I'll use it as long as it isn't totally bonkers.

It will be a lot of fun regardless!

Sweet, I'm very curious about this. Better throttle response and mapping is what I'm trying to get to, more than more peak HP and TQ.

RaceChip GTS Black doesn’t adjust pedal throttle input.
You will need RaceChip XLR for throttle pedal input.
A lot of guys doesn’t know about XLR.
It is pretty much a gas/throttle pedal tuner.
