ECU Flash
I was offered by a tuner to flash the ecu of my 2023 M2 with the 2025 ecu parameters. The ECU doesn't need to be hacked. He says that this will upgrade the engine from 450 hp to 480 hp. He is legit and has been doing this for years. Many of my friends are extremely satisfied. He also gave me the option of flashing either CS or CSL parameters as well; not a must. He says this second flash will affect my steering, adaptive shocks, tranny, and differential. What are your opinions? What is the difference between the CS vs CSL flash? Which would you recommend? Thanks

Pretty good conversations going about this on the engine mods forum:
Here is the link to the discussion. My personal take is that it's likely a pretty safe/affordable way to get some extra HP and match what's being put out by the 2025. However, I like having a warranty and I would never forgive myself if the car had a major issue within the warranty period that was not covered because I had tuned the car (even if it's an OEM tune). So, for me, I'm going to hold off until the car is past the warranty period, or until BMW offers it as an upgrade through the dealership. |

I read that link prior to posting. I plan on doing the flash but there was no discussion on whether one should flash the CS or CSL version.

For that specific part, I'm not really sure on the differences between the CS vs. CSL. My hunch is that any benefit won't be truly noticed until on the track. Guessing there are others here with more experience on that front. |

However, if I tune the car now, and there's some issue that causes catastrophic engine damage (meaning I need a new engine). There's a strong possibility BMW corporate points to the tune as a means for denial, even if the tune didn't actually cause the issue. If I had some part that I KNEW caused an issue, I'm fine paying out of pocket to fix it. It's the risk of a claim denial for an unrelated issue that they blame on the tune that keeps me from doing it. So, at this point in my life, if I can have peace of mind for 50k miles, or an extra 20 hp, I personally am taking the peace of mind. |
