Well that was a fun impulse buy! Can anyone confirm the part # for the BlendMount for the M2? Is it BR7-3032?

Just checked my order and that is the correct one! I paired it with the mirror tap MTX-1015

Picked up an R7 from Amazon for $380 on Black Friday.

Used the wire pins tap kit sold on Amazon to tap into the mirror power and was intending to put the detector under the mirror but I didn't like how low the radar unit sat which blocked my view of the road so I used the semi-permanent 3M tape type mount and put it to the right of the mirror at visor level. Yes, this makes the passenger visor useless but I rarely have a passenger so no issue for me. I don't use the detector much so I can actually remove most of the mount for daily driving and a passenger can use the visor no problem.

I am getting an R7 for christmas, grabbed the following mount and power:

Similar thoughts to Wilco, will put next to the mirror as under would be far too low even if it was right up against the bottom.

Let us know how you like that mount. For a few bucks more I got this one which is both easily adjustable without having to bend any metal and you can also remove all of it except the flat piece that sticks to the windshield.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08XYC5ZX3...fed_asin_title

Also, not sure about the pigtails on that wire tap you have but you will need very small pins to get into that harness plug - the bigger pins are a definite no go.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D93K63C9...sin_title&th=1

It is real pita trying to get even the very small pins into that harness plug.

Lastly, some have been successful using a plastic pry tool to separate the halves of that plastic cover but I had to use a metal one because the plastic ones were not thin enough and the ones that were thin enough broke or bent. It takes some patience to get it apart because if you separate the bottom part, it snaps back when you pull the upper part apart. I used some wood tongue depressors to keep from snapping back together.

Good luck. Hard wiring is the only way to go IMO.

Are you saying the ones you bought were still too big?
And hard wire as in run a wire along the roof liner to a fuse box?

Thanks, i got the wire kit you linked as I'm not interested in getting half way through the install ans having to stop.

Well see how the metal bracket works in practice but I'm a bigger fan of the look of the all metal one, especially when the detector isn't up there. However, if it is a pain to work with then I will certainly change it out.

The wire tap method that we are referring to is to tap into the wire harness plug on the windshield that leads to the rearview mirror by inserting small metal pins into the back of the wiring plug - no soldering or splicing required. Some of those wire tap kits on eBay and elsewhere only have either small or large pins and some have both. On my car, I had to use the small pins and the kit I linked to above from Amazon has both sizes.

Unless you want your detector to only turn on and off with the ignition, there is no need to go all the way to the fuse block and tap from there (entirely different tap kit needed than the mirror). Wired to the mirror on my M240i the R7 comes on when you open a door and stays on for 10-15 minutes after exiting - like the dash. I don't mind this but some might.

BTW, I did this same install on my Honda Ridgeline and it needed the larger pins. The install on the BMW took over an hour and the install on the Ridgeline took 15 minutes! This was mainly due to the plastic cover having to be removed on the BMW whereas the truck had direct access to the wiring harness plug from the back of the mirror.

Someone said you can twist the mirror on the BMW and it will come off entirely which will give you much better access but I didn't try that. I might have tried that had it taken much longer though. If you have very large hands it might work better that way (removing the mirror).

The one I linked to can be easily removed leaving only the flat piece on the windshield.

Also, if you have some black 3M VHB tape, I would recommend you remove the gray VHB tape that comes on these mounts and put black VHB tape instead. That way, it will be almost invisible from the front of the car. I used the gray tape and after I got it up, I regretted it. I might pull it down and do it with black tape.

I understand the wire tap stuff. What I was asking is you said hard wire is the way to go. So I was asking how you did it. But I think you answered about the M240.
The other question was does the Amazon kit you got have small enough pins as I saw a different one with three different sizes.

Yes, I see that it has the gopro style remover. Could be the trick, gonna look at the metal one before I decide. Could always put that up in my other car.

was looking at these trim tools, think they would work? https://www.amazon.com/ARES-10092-Pa.../dp/B0BRTJMMTW

Here is the one that I used. I used the blunt end and sort of twisted it to separate the 2 pieces. Just have to be careful so you don't scratch the plastic. The tool has to be fairly thin to get in between the two pieces. Some of them are too thick. This one is sort of a thick spring steel.

Add to cart. Add to cart. 😆😆😆
That mount is cheaper than the blend mount. Also gives me a good idea to mount a Gopro inside

I went with the blendmount mirror tap and had no issues after following another guide on this forum

May be just the zoomed in picture but boy even those small pins look too big for the BMW plug.

I got the other kit you linked and the pins are smaller and actually square profile, the pins on the ebay one are the same thickness but are wide and flat.

Of the two kits, the ebay kit is better made and highe quality, but all that matters is which one works!
