A guess... The poster lives in TX. Pretty flat country. Plus outside of the urban areas traffic moves along at a reasonable clip. Gas prices there are (probably) quite low. (To give you an idea: In Benton County AR I paid $2.839/gallon for 91 E10 the other day.)

There's a thread here somewhere about mpg, and I've posted with screenshots showing I regularly get ~29 mpg with cruise set at 85 mph on my weekly drives between Austin & Dallas. My drive is 250 mi, then I get another 100-120 mi around town before filling up. I paid $2.93/g for 93 octane when I filled up this week. My avg mpg from factory is ~24.5. I tend to not race around from stop light to stop light like Gaylord Focker

Auto and long trips that's why. Us manual folks are not rolling like that lol. About 3k or so rpm at 85mph. Then again I got a 330i to pup around.

As a DD its stupidly small. 3 gallons would not reduce the size of the trunk that much or increase weight that much. Love my car and I knew what I was getting into, but the fuel tank size would be my #1 "gripe" - this was setup to be a complaining thread, right? . I will also say that I get surprisingly good gas mileage compared to what I expected, but the tank is still too small. :-)

Mileage from factory of ~24.5mpg is pretty good. With my 2023 M2 w/6-speed manual factory mileage is ~20mpg. (It is above 20mpg but not by much...)

Like you I don't race from stop light to stop light and in fact most of the time I tend to high mile the car in my day to day driving which consists of surface streets here in Benton County, AR. Trips are short though. About 5 to 10 miles one way then the return leg.

Still I can easily get the trip MPG average to ~22mpg. The flip side is abandoning the high mile driving behavior that average can drop to the high teens. And I'm sure if I would be willing to throw caution to the wind that average would drop even more but I don't want to get a ticket or worse...

My daily commute has a 2-mi stretch of some hills/tight curves. If there's light traffic (more on my morning drive) I'll hit the M2 button (sport+ everything) and rip through that stretch. Gets it out of my system for the day

My biggest gripe, which appears to be getting worse, is the glitchiness of iDrive 8 or whatever is in our cars. Pretty much all I care about is music & navigation through CarPlay. Every time I get into my car, it acts differently. Get in car and one of the following will occur:
- music automatically starts playing.

- no music, but Spotify is open, the artist/song is shown & I have to hit play on the screen.

- no music but Spotify is open, but on my home screen. Have to hit library then select what I want to play

- no music, Spotify open, but play button on screen doesn't start music. Must hit play on my phone.

- music playing but steering wheel controls will not forward to the next song, says "unknown artist".

- music playing, but screen is black.

- music playing but volume on mute.

- music & navigation active, screen goes black but music & navigation continue. Screen will not come back until either 1. Reset iDrive or 2. Shut car off and re-start.

- device not connected, re-pair device but shows connected in my phone settings.

It's a crap shoot each time the car is started. Just shouldn't be happening.

Auto climate program suckiness has been overtaken by iDrive for now.

Another one - I have my AC set to 66, but even with that in the mornings I get heat coming on. I hate that. I like cold. Is there some way to turn off the heat? I have not found a way to do that without turning the whole HVAC system off.

No wayyy, I'm on my 3rd tank & odo is at ~350mi total (staying within break-in guidelines, of course). Stop driving like James May!

He got it all of his system then and never sped again. Sad The Grand Tour is coming to an end.

They knew it had to end at sometime, it went out on a high note with a very fitting last episode.

That's strange.

Attached is a pic of my M2's climate control settings. I don't get any heat from the vents -- at least with a cold start -- with the cabin temperature set to 72F.

Vent control set to Balanced. But I often have it set to Dynamic and still no heat upon a cold start.

I stress cold start. If I start the engine with the engine hot or even warm from prior use or from sitting out in the sun there can be a short time of warm air from the vents before it is replaced with cooler air.

It was in Oregon until recently. Love pumping my own, but wife still has option of full service at no additional cost.
