When the M3 added the big screen and idrive8, wasn’t that also called an LCI?

Given the M2 will be in production through to 2029 - so another 4 years, surely they'll update various aspects, LCI or not?

There is an LCI2 in the original pipeline. March 26 maybe?

I’d expect new headlights with vertical elements in keeping with latest design language and new taillights where the white element is replaced by red and minimal white remaining for reverse gear.

Other than that maybe some minimal bumper and styling revisions and engine retune.

No light changes planned. It's an expensive item to refresh and as long as sales are strong, it won't happen.

thats interesting HB - i thought lights would be prime candidate for the LCI2 otherwise im not sure how much they can change - i dont think the tech architecture in M2 can go to idrive 9 so this will likely remain as 8.5, maybe more interior colour options from M3/M4 and individual paint? And on the drivetrain front we maybe see the xdrive.

Any more info/speculation HB?

There is no LCI2 planned now, based on what I learned a few months ago. That could change if indeed the M2 production gets extended.

hb, if you had to assign it a % likelihood, how does it look for G87 getting extended? any implication on the availability of the manual with the G84 since we now know the S58 is soldiering on?

Not sure if Horatiu wrote it, but according to BMW Blog (https://www.bmwblog.com/2024/10/25/g...20transmission.) the G84 M3 is unlikely to have a manual transmission and at the moment it hadn’t been decided whether it will use a B58 or S58 based hybrid system.

There are no indications the G87 EOP will be extended after the MY2029 production ends in mid 2029, typically BMW doesn’t go beyond 7-year production cycles (the G29 Z4 looks like it will now get one model year beyond normal, though) especially when the G42 production will also be ending, so the body and cabin component production costs will increase as the volume drops off considerably.

cant see a manual G84 as if they even use 48v hybrid starter, it basically rules manual out (ie bmw havent done a manual on any 48v enabled vehicle so would have to go against the norm to offer it here and re-engineer for 1 specific model (and a sub variant at that). Unlikely imo

Honestly, I don't wanna put a percentage since my reporting is based on facts. So unless I hear something concrete, I just can't make an assumption. I don't have daily visibility into their plans and they can change quickly. All I know is that there are conversations around it because otherwise, a new M2 will have to be decided very soon, and that's a tough decision to make: Going EV, going mild hybrid, etc...

The logical sense, from the outside, is to extend the G87 by a 2-3 years and see how the market is developing, learning from Porsche's mistake with the Cayman. But again, I don't know how easy it is to extend production and what the implications are.

Off-topic but I thought you might know the answer given your proximity to BMW: why is a 360 degree camera not available on the M2?

You can option it on the M240i, a lesser model, which makes no sense to me.

My guess on the camera is that there might be a technical reason why it isn’t available.Maybe it’s the shape of the front or rear bumper that doesn’t allow that camera to properly function.Otherwise i agree it makes no sense why it isn’t an available option.

Another strange one is that the MY25 M240i comes with leather drift knee pads which includes the stitching. The MY25 M2 still just comes with the plain plastic ones. You would think that the M2 would have them instead of the M240i as a standard feature.

Do you think that when BMW introduces M xDrive for the G87 and discontinues RWD they might call it an entirely new model like they did with the original M2 Competition?I assume that if they did that then there would most likely be some exterior changes.

I asked. The answer was: it's a driver's car, we didn't think it will suit the car.

They said it's a driver's car. Not needed

No exterior changes. They won't call it differently, just simply M2 xDrive. At least that was the plan earlier this year. Final badge names can change up to 18 months before production.
