285 vs 295 vs 305 rear tires?

Anyone gone up to 295 or 305 on the rear tires on the OEM wheels?

I was told I can do up to 305, but that seems too wide to me…

Will adding wider than OEM in the rear affect handling keeping the 275’s in front?

My rears are due to replace soon so looking for anyone’s experience.

I agree, 295's on a 10.5 rim is about the limit. I have 305's on the rear of my 911 and they sit on 11" rims.

A 10.5" rim is within the recommended width for a Continental 305/30-20 tire. Best to check with the manufacturer on suggested size.

Yes, you can run a 305/30/20 Michelin on a 10.5" wheel ( recommended wheel size is 10.5 to 11.5 ) but it will look a tad bit stretched and you might loose a bit of the sidewall protection.

Not to mention the mismatch between the front and rear. The overall diameter changes from 26.8" to 27.2". You moved beyond the .3" tolerable level that most stability control can handle. The 295 is a much better fit.

I have been thinking about this and unfortunately I do not understand the .3" tolerance level. Can someone please explain this to me?

I would like to eventually go to 285/35/19 on a 10" wheel up front and 305/30/20 on a 11" rear wheel. Is it OK to do this? Will it mess anything up with the car (stability wise)?

That’s what I plan to run, as well.

Glad I am not the only one. I think it is a good set up but didn’t realize there is so much more that goes into picking wheels and tires.

I think you mean pinched. A 305/30/20 will look pinched tad on 10.5" rim. The 285 on a 10.5" wheel looks stretched. I will probably switch out to a 295/30/20 on the OEM wheel.

the traction control monitors wheel speed. within the programmed tolerances for a difference between wheels speeds it thinks all is well. if the front or rear tires are turning faster or slower than expected, it will want to intervene as it thinks something is slipping. when you change the diameter of a tire you change the speed it spins at relative to the other tires.

need to keep the outside diameter of tires as close as possible to the stock diameter.

Thank you for the easy to understand explanation!
