Hang on. Thinking about Ocon Doohan switch more.

What if they are actually looking at Colapinto and looking for an excuse to bump Doohan before he even starts his season. That’s a shit move. We all know the Ocon car is knobbled compared to Gasly car.

Also a shit move not to give Ocon a farewell.

It is Alpine though.

They need to admit this is a boring track and redesign it, at least Abu Dhabi finally gave in and tried to do something after drivers and fans kept complaining about its layout.
well they are trying to make people watch the next race by giving Lando a stop go penalty, Lando potentially saving his season by getting to 10th with fastest lap from last place

barring unforseen penalties, McLaren has sealed the constructors by being 21 points ahead

Should be sufficient for Norris and McLaren.

Norris will require 'calculated driving' as Verstappen did in Las Vegas, to secure WCC P1 and WDC P2. Only few overtake options at the Yas Marina circuit, but no street circuit, low chances to beach the car and high-level grip surface (surface of the track is made of graywacke aggregate shipped from England: high level of grip, though at the expense of a higher rate of tyre wear).

Bad qualifying or a DNF resulting from a bold move gone wrong, could cost Norris dearly if Leclerc, Sainz and Ferrari would bring their A game.

Not slowing down under double yellow's has consistently been a 10 sec stop and go for about ages. So, might be a bit harse, but at least it's consistent and not made up on the spot

"Compliance with the yellow flag rules is paramount for the safety of all parties and this requirement is clearly noted in the first item of the Race Director's Event Notes at every event."

Andrea Stella of McLaren complains that the penalty for the double yellows violation by Norris "lacks proportion and specificity". I don't recall Stella backing Verstappen for getting imposed a 5 second time penalty - demoting him from P3 to P4 in the Sprint classification - by the stewards (including Johnny Herbert) after the São Paulo Sprint because "the driver was 0.63 seconds below the minimum time at VSC End when the FIA light panels changed to green" or Verstappen getting imposed "community service" by the stewards (including Johnny Herbert) for having said "the car was f**ked" about his own car during a press conference.

"The stewards can apply their discretion, but the FIA stewards' guidelines prescribe a 10-second stop-and-go as the standard penalty for ignoring double yellow flags in a race.
Stella said "the penalty was deserved" because it was clear that Norris had not slowed down for the yellow flags.
"That leads us to two important requirements that we all, I'm sure, would like to know are applied when it's about giving a penalty - one is proportion and the second one is specificity," Stella added. "The application of the penalty lacks both requirements.
"The specificity has to do with what case are we actually considering? Is there an immediate danger for somebody? Is there a crash scene?
"This leads to proportion - the penalty needs to be commensurate, proportionate to the severity of the infringement.
"It's interesting that the FIA themselves were going on and off with the yellow flag and at some stage it was even removed. Which gives a sense how severe is the situation.
"Lando did not slow down, but the lack of any specificity and proportion is very concerning and is also a factor that could have a decisive impact on the championship quest."
Stella said the FIA should consider this "very seriously if we want fairness to be part of racing in F1".
He added: "We expect that this case of applying such a severe penalty in this case will be reviewed by the FIA and there is certainly material for improvement.
"We have expressed that we expect this case to be reviewed but we don't want to enter in any comment in changes of racing director. We don't have the elements to judge. We just trust the institution that is there to do this job."
He emphasised that McLaren had asked for the review to "put the sport in a better place", adding: "I am thinking about the future of F1, not this event specifically."

He sure is and must be rueing the double yellow incident, Charlie is going to be calculating like Prost the professor was, at Abu dabi. Lando under immense pressure now walking away with just 2 points to Charlies 18.
On a separate note these night time races are beginning to s@ck for me.

Well a 35 second penalty really. Not just the usual add to finishing position scenario like most of the recent punishments.

However. The main thing was that the whole thing was a total mess. So poorly implemented. They waited for someone to run across the mirror smash it to pieces then cause punctures. Absolute mess.

Should have been a safety car straight away.

I’d pretty much guarantee Lando was not the only driver that did this either. He just got George level snitched.

Good interpretation from a Beatles song from the past, serious music fans would spot it soon enough.

Mika Salo explained why he and his 3 colleague stewards imposed a 10 second stop-and-go penalty on Kimi Räikkönen during the 2017 Spa-Francorchamps GP (context: Verstappen was stranded with engine power loss on the Kemmel Straight and was required to park in front of the grandstands - Kimi did not lift his foot - 317 km/h fly-by).
"The double yellow flag is a rule that must be respected. Kimi, looking at the telemetry, didn't pay any attention to the danger at all, keeping his foot down. There is a rule and we applied it, [full] stop. Pilots need to pay attention to these things because we are talking about important situations in which we need to be clear-headed."

Kimi blasting full throttle past stranded Verstappen and race marshalls (right hand side of the track) at 317 km/h - double yellow flags (Kimi's reaction upon getting notified the penalty by his Ferrari race engineer: "What do you mean ? He was on the side of the road !")

2021 Austrian GP: both Nikita Mazepin and Nicholas Mazepin got imposed 10 second stop-and-go penalties post-race, converted to 30 second penalties, because of ignoring double yellow flags.

Race penalties only:

2021 Austrian GP, Mazepin & Latifi handed penalty post-race, 10s Stop & Go, which was translated into 30s added to their race time due to the penalty being post race.

And in 2017 Belgian GP: Raikkonnen handed 10s Stop & Go for ignoring double yellows.

It doesn't happen often in the race itself so it seems.

All of this would have been averted had the stewards given a VSC or SC and removed the mirror in the few laps to took them to act! I expect the FIA to do better. This was a major fail and cost teams money AND points as well as created more safety issues. WHERE IS THEIR PENALTY??? The gaps between cars were great enough even *I*, at 59, could have run out there and gotten the mirror under speed! WUSS stewards! Also no penalty for the team with the mirror! Where is that!?!? The FIA has to be done with f-ing up and their inconsistency!!!!!
