What level of spying while using the car happens? Is there a dash cam recording everything? Is the speed being tracked?

All current BMWs have an Event Data Recorder, in the EU it is now mandatory in all new vehicles. This is what BMW says about it:

“The event data recorder (EDR) – or black box of the vehicle – records only data that is legally required. This data cannot be read over-the-air by BMW; it can only be read by experts who have been commissioned for the purpose for official enquiries and rulings.” https://www.bmwgroup.com/en/innovati...tem-db79f26b93

As for what data -- exactly -- is collected/reported there's this:

BMW CarData offers BMW NA customers the option of viewing their selected Vehicle Data and to release the data for transmission to third parties.

For example, the data transmitted to third parties could include information about vehicle mileage or fuel level.

A list of the available Vehicle Data can be found in the CarData elements glossary included your CarData Report download.

I never enabled CarData and thus I have never looked at a CarData report.
