Some comments about TVs. What type of content do you watch? Where is the TV going to be located? This is important as the ambient lighting or if you have sunlight/daylight that shines directly or in the general direction of the TV. LCD still provides more ultimate nits of light output than OLED.

The content you watch is important as depending on the TV, you can suffer from image retention/burn in with OLED. There are two different types of OLED panels out there: W-OLED and QD-OLED. QD-OLED is the latest and greatest and found on high end TVs. I ran into a video where RT Ratings is running a long term TV torture test where they're running static images on various TVs to check for image retention/burn in. They mention it seems the QD-OLED is more susceptible to image retention/burn in than W OLED.

Also viewing angle is consideration although from what I've seen, the latest LCD panels seem to have very good viewing angle performance over the old LCD panels.

Personally, if I'm in the market for a general purpose use TV, I would get an LCD panel with local dimming technology. I have a few LCD panels from Samsung, Hisense, and TCL. The Samsung panels are pretty old so can't really say much about them. I've been surprised by the Hisense I have in my bedroom that does pretty well. The TCL I have at my vacation home has been a pretty solid performer for the price. The key to both is that I looked up any picture/calibration settings available online and applied them to the TVs. While this isn't as good as a true in person ISF calibration, it was good enough for me.

I do have an OLED panel. It's from Sony and is the A90J which was the king of all OLEDs until they released the A95K which has the newer QD-OLED panel. I know the panel used in the A90J is made by LG for Sony under their specs. In fact, LG manufactures OLED panels for many other manufacturers. I purchased my A90J from Value Electronics. They provided great customer service and are extremely knowledgeable about TVs. They sponsor an annual TV shoot out that has been the reference for many enthusiasts on AVS Forum. They also offer in house break in of the panel and ISF calibrations before the TV is shipped to you. I took advantage of this optional service with my A90J. The ISF calibration was done by D-Nice of AVS Forum fame. I actually had contracted D-Nice to come to my home many years ago to calibrate both of my Pioneer plasmas. He's legendary for getting TVs dialed in to give the best picture possible.

The lineup, in this case "B4", tells you about the features and specs. You can upgrade the display, say from QLED to OLED, but may be left with a laggy interface. This can make them slower and less responsive to input. I have an LG C3, that I really like. But, it wasn't cheap, now the C4 line is available.

But you said that you don't watch TV a lot. So, how important are those things to you? I have a 6 year old Samsung QLED in a bedroom and it still has a great picture, but it can be a little slow loading streaming apps and changing channels.

Remember these sets are basically a computer with a display and tuner, so the tech inside makes a big difference.

Dishwasher wise, I have Bosch at both of my homes. They've been solid performers. I bought the base unit which is quiet enough for me. It's not whisper quiet but you don't have to crank up the TV to overcome the noise from it. I installed both myself. I don't remember if one or both had the problem with keeping the door latched tight which would cause the dishwasher to stop running. Bosch knew about the problem and had a fix for it that was done free of charge.

For refrigerators, I think the service guy I spoke to a couple of years ago, said to look into GE and Whirlpool. You definitely don't want to get anything from Samsung or LG. Both are having problems. There are many service centers in my area that refuse to work on Samsung refrigerators because of all the problems. LG is in the middle of dealing with issues with their compressors. I think there's a class action lawsuit started against them on this.

The co installing our kitchen cabinets is saying most ppl are going to Costco for appliances - is that worth a look of should we stick with Lowe’s?

Good prices, free delivery and set up, excellent return policies... Go to Lowes to actually see the appliance you want then compare prices with Costco.

Pretty sure Costco gives you an extra year on warranty too, at least for some appliances.

For dishwashers, only we’ve had Bosch in our last 2 houses.

Dishes are always clean, better racks = better utilization, and not a single problem with either of them.

Another vote for Bosch dishwashers. Solid and quiet.

This is why we're still watching a 46" Panasonic plasma that we got in 2010. We don't need anything larger in our viewing space, and when black levels are an issue this TV is tops.

The only downside is that it uses 650w of power, which makes itself evident if you come within two feet of the screen. So, good in the winter, not so good in the summer.

Now that we’re back in Asheville, I remembered why I used optical instead of HDMI. The particular Sonos only works with optical - no HDMI option.
