Very nice. As long as it weighs significantly less then the new G90 M5, I'm "almost" all in on a quad motor EV M car. And the i4 with the G80 M3 front end doesn't looks half bad. At least on the camo. Looking forward to the next installment of this new video production series...

[QUOTE=GearRex;31692950]Lease, lease, lease. NEVER buy an electric car.
The battery technology will improve, and we have a long way to go until it matures. Every new generation will be better than the last, making the new ones more desirable, and for those who bought their cars, the used car values will tank every time, and no one will want to buy used ones as long as new ones are being subsidized, and the tech is much improved. --------------------------------- Well, buying an EV has advantages even though technology will improve. You could argue the same thing for ICE where gas mileage and performance improves. I leased a Fiat 500e then a Chevy Bolt; both for my daughter. The latest Bolt we bought because the purchase price was better than buying the previous car off lease. Battery technology has not changed in the last 8 years or so. Or at least not dramatically. We are all on the edge of our seats waiting for solid state battery anode issues to be resolved. Even if they announce a fix in a laboratory; it's 4-6 years for commercialization and scaling for volume. So that will be more than a decade with roughly the same battery tech. My i4 isn't going to stop being a decent car when technology changes. As someone working in the technology sector for 35+ years; if you wait for the next innovation, you will never stop waiting.

I'm debating on whether I should just bite the bullet and move on from ICE, or just get on the bandwagon. We have about another 10 years of new ICE sales before the hammer really comes down. Maybe I'll at least get some of those home charger tax credits. More and more it looks like my trade up from my M340 will be electric - as much as I absolutely love the rumble of the B58
Nothing a little E can't help with |

Not really a comparison. M3P costs about half the price of the M3 and it caters to a different audience. Its like asking why the BMW 3 series is losing out to a Corolla. I dont think EV’s can be the sole car at this stage esp in the US where distances are long and charging infrastructure is not great. Almost all of us who own an EV prob have an ICE back up in their garages. Maybe in 5-10 yrs that might change. But trying to force everyone to adopt the EV will backfire and companies are now slowing down the transition and trying to offer hybrids and keep ICE going to make sure everyone gets what they want. Its one of the reason EV adoption has tanked a people are not confidant that an EV will work for them at the current time. The only reason the M5 has battery is to comply with the German govt regulations. How much it helps save pollution and the environment is out there. So in paper it complies with the mandate but really doesnt do much for the environment. |

I am so exited what BMW can pull off now that they are investing a lot in R&D for their EV lines, if anyone can BMW can and Porsche can pull of a proper drivers cars in EV form.
I have said it many times BMW should put all of their resources they can or at least 70-80% of the R&D in to EVs while the rest of the budget keep improving their ICE engines on the emissions side until they are phased out. Sense performance wise BMWs engines are beasts as is. They should be able to develop EV drivetrains for those who wants more driver engagement and those who simply just wants an one pedal drive experience. The i4 m50 is still their best selling M-Models out there. So they obviously hit a cord with that one not surprised they are using that one as a base for development, while aiming for M2 driver engagement. But my god how much cables is there in that car Geeeeez imagine a rat getting in there chewing on something! The cost to fix that would be nightmare but then again this is a prototype lets hope they scale down some of the craziness in the production unit. We need less expensive stuff to fix not more when the car breaks witch it obliviously will as any car sooner or later .

The electric M vehicles will be very quick of the mark & in general quicker than an ICE version.
Glad I have the one I have now which why I ordered the car when I did. As other manufacturers whether or not the future is EV, they need to comply or be left behind in the general overall sales market & media. |

Drill baby drill is not the only path forward. Many parallel paths will be developed. This is the folly of all the uneducated people who speak on the energy industry...they want "one path". It's not that simple. For a whole host of reasons. BTW, before anyone calls me a soy boy or any other nonsense, think twice and look at my location. |

EV are here to stay. Best option is to have the choice of what suits best, and europe is now slowly going back from banning ICE. For now at least. My next car is not running on dinosaur juice. Too inefficient.
We will see how it all will turn out.

I'm betting the performance will be on par with the Taycan GT, so stay tuned guys.
Also, I'm betting many here won't buy it,...yet many here will be reading its rear license plate,...all day! I cannot imagine BMW creating a half-ass ///M model. It will have an 800+ Hp number,...in base model,...1000+ in upper models, with 800-Volt architecture. And like I said before, this Bimmer isn't for hardcore #Icephiles,...it's for open-minded Ice-Heads that want a taste of BEV technology from the likes of BMW. So, Fellas, place your bets!!! PS: The BEV foundation is being laid for our kids,...grandkids, and great grandkids. You know, a little less than 100 years ago,...some Farmers never experience working his fields with Mules,...just as just over 100 years ago, some Farmers never experienced working their fields with a mechanical contraption called a Tractor! So, just as some won't experience a BEV,...there will be some that won't experience an ICEV. BEV is what they'll know, and #ICEV is what we already know, and we all should be happy for each other. ijs
