I know we all bitch and moan about the "old days" before politics was banned. But honestly, this thread in the "old" BP-OT would have been a page of CEO got murdered, a page of McRib, and 14,276 pages of political fighting.

Quite honestly, the reaction fron the country tells you all you need to know. I don’t really condone murder but don’t really have an issue with what happened, either. When you screw with people’s ’ lives then you take risks. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

I miss it. It was great fun. The whole "welcome to the Thunderdome" vibe just added spice to these forums which have now been neutered.

Also, out of those 14,276 pages of political fighting, on average, there would be zero people changing their mind / opinion. There was no reasoned consideration of the other's viewpoint, it was just rabid disagreement. And it made me laugh. So much.

Murder is never ok. Change the system through valid means. I feel bad for the kid, he seemed troubled, and the system is very flawed, probably even evil, probably even crooked, but it doesnt justify.

If the result of the situation is change for the better in insurance industry that is a good result to a very bad and unfortunate situation.

Not that it will go anywhere, but I was reading an interview of this doctor in your fine country who just tore a strip off the insurance companies (and rightfully so it seemed). One of the proposals was to legislate transparency and disclose the number of claims denied vs approved by each insurance company to provide some additional details to the public. That seems like it could be useful information, though I'd imagine it could be manipulated fairly easily by approving a crap load of small insignificant claims and continuing to deny the costly claims...metric improves, but doesn't give the full story. Almost need to show it by type of claim.

Usually the first page or two were decent conversations. Then the handful of nutters would come in and that was the end of that.

Still I enjoyed reading it for those first few pages.

I don't have any experience with the American healthcare system but know people who traveled stateside and paid out of pocket for procedures, surgeries, etc. in order to avoid the wait times and potentially poor quality healthcare north of the border.

Insurance companies looking out for shareholders and not the policy holders - nothing new. As someone who deals with insurance claims for a living, some of the stuff that happens is pretty disturbing to say the least.

Also, resolving a healthcare matter with gun violence?

This is coming from a person with the nic "Watching the world burn." How apropos.

Nothing is gained by discussing religion or politics, they're both just fodder.

I think it depends on who you discuss it with, I have a strict policy with respect to starting those types of conversations and more importantly when to stop.

From what I saw on the news, the gunman was eating a McD's hash brown - so that ends the McRib digressions, right? (please please don't switch to pickeball) I do find it ironic that the 'Robin Hood of modern healthcare' will go down for craving something that hs to be amongst the least healthy of foods.

It's amazing how many people simultaneously decry violence (assassination in this case) but are actually OK with violence, as long as it's their flavor of it.

Take a look at the still image of the shooter as captured at the scene. Pay particular attention to the space between eyebrows. Now take a look at the arrested suspect.

It's incredibly difficult to grow hair, especially in the brow area, in a matter of days.

Agree, condemning violence is a universal principle, not something we apply selectively based on specific situations or our own interests.

If found guilty, the suspect may be put to death depending on the type of ruling from what I've read on capital punishment in NYC.
