M240i xDrive 600 whp?

I’m coming out of a heavily modified 392 Challenger making 671 rwhp.

I’m going to order a 2025 M240i xDrive. About 600 to the wheels will keep me at the same power to weight ratio I had before, only with AWD, which would be awesome.

Can I achieve that with a tune, intake and exhaust components, or would that require something more like a turbo pulley?

I want to also keep it reliable and with good road manners for long trips and such. Also, normal 93 octane pump gas. Thanks for any input!

the ECU is also locked from the factory so you will need to take it out and ship it overseas to unlock it

I hear that every time BMW send an update it will wipe the new map. Not sure how true this is.

Yikes. Is there a certain year that this starts being an issue? I can (perhaps) look at the used M2 market, or something.

It started in 2022 for all bmws. So all g42s and g87s if you are looking at 2 series.

It’s very true. If you install an OTA update it will lock your DME and if you go in to the dealer and they update the DME it will lock again.

Then guess what? Need to ship your DME off to Finland again to have it unlocked and be able to flash the tune again.

The last 2 OTA updates did nothing noticeable, and its been quite a while since there was one. I'm guessing we are going to see one last update soonish and then they probably stop sending out any updates anyway.

Getting the ECU unlocked in Finland; you ship it on a Monday and you'll have it back in your hands Friday. Its not really that big a deal... so long as you only have to do it once. It would ruin my mood for a month if I accidently updated/locked it and had to send it out a second time though.

But lets circle back for a second... WTF is a turbo pulley??

I put a turbo pulley on my brother's stock b7 rs4 and it really increased the power a ton. After we did that we decided to tackle the water to water charge cooler and the valve coilovers.

A b7 rs4 is a NA v8 not a turboed engine

Whoosh? lol

(In case even more explanation is needed, literally everything I wrote is fake stuff, but my brother does have a clean AF 70k mile RS4 that is very fun)

Brain fart. I'm used to superchargers. I forgot turbos function off of the exhaust. With a SC a smaller pulley = more boost.

I talked to a BMW speed shop, and he recommended I go with a new M2. I asked him about the last gen, and (according to him) there's a $4000 upgrade you have to do so it can handle the additional torque.

I can’t speak for MHD, but on BM3, they added a safety measure that will block any update to the DME. How do I know? Well, I had to get my head unit replaced, and when the dealer started updating the DME for the new head unit, he received an error every time it got to the DME part of the update. After talking with protuning freaks and showing them the dealer notes it turns out protuning freaks have to remote in to lock your DME. I tried flashing back to stock and re-locking DME but to no avail. Doing that just ends up with your car not starting, and you can fix that by flashing back to an OTS map.

Basically, the only way I could revert to stock so the dealer could reprogram my head unit was for protuning freaks to remote in and do their thing.

First time hearing about the Update block from BM3. Very good idea.
Has BM3 posted any specific info about this, or did they just start including it ?

I haven't visited the Femto or BM3 websites in a while

To my knowledge, the blocking feature has only recently been introduced, at least since my experience in May of this year. Unfortunately, I learned about the blocking feature during a conversation on AnyDesk when they did the remote-in procedure, so I don't have any proof of that discussion. However, the dealer notes indicate that my tune blocked the reprogramming, which I will attach.

Amazing. The techs knew exactly what was going on every step of the way.

And just curious - was this all paid for out of pocket ?

I can't imagine the dealership going ahead with any warranty work once they saw you had a locked tuned DME ?

Or did they maintain the other parts of your warranty ?

Nope, I didn’t pay a dime. I was even given a loaner when they were waiting for a new head unit to come in. I ended up not locking my DME that day BM3 remote in because I wasn’t ready to resend the DME back to Femto, as it didn’t make sense when Rev2 was coming soon, which, yeah, that ain’t happen, lol. But last Friday, I said forget it; I have pure 900, S58 injectors, HPFP, etc., all waiting to get installed, so I had BM3 lock the DME that morning, and the dealer was able to reprogram the head unit the same day. On top of that, my SA was like, “Hey, you are due for an oil change; I know you do your own changes, but let us do it so BMW won’t come down later saying you missed an oil change and decline any warranty work in the future.”

Now, I’m just waiting for my DME to get back to me so I can install these parts along with a custom tune by Sameh. I'll attach dealer notes from last Friday showing that my warranty is still good. Even on the MyBMW app, everything is green for three more years.

Wow, your dealership must love you.

I've had dealerships repair things under warranty that had been completely modified .

But that was after handshaking my service manager a few hundred bucks.

Do you have a build thread started ? It would be nice to follow all the progress
