Got my 2024 aligned during the Run In Service, given this thread. Right rear camber not perfect but otherwise didn't need it (I don't have MPHAS). Oh well, piece of mind I guess.

Adding my car to this list of vehicle needing an alignment even though everything is factory OEM on my car (well, except my winter wheels). Luckily this thread helped me to know that I need to take it in before 2,000 miles.

Turns out my toe-in/out was so far out of alignment, the dealership did not even feel comfortable doing the alignment with my winter wheels (non-BMW wheels) on the car. So, now I have to take the car back to the dealer with my OEM wheels, have them swap the OEM wheels back on, do the alignment, then swap the winter wheels back on.

All that being said: an additional lesson to this entire post. GET AN ALIGNMENT DONE BEFORE DOING ANY MODS TO THE CAR, EVEN IF THAT IS ONLY WINTER WHEELS. It will make your life easier.

Everyone should just assume the factory alignment is not acceptable; in fact, if I buy another new BMW I will make that part of the sale agreement to just have this done before I even purchase the car.

BroDoze see above. You might still be under 2,000 miles

Were the winter wheels aftermarket or BMW?

curtdragon the winter wheels were aftermarket so they did not have the 5 "small holes" which BMW uses for the laser alignment "flags".

This post helped me in asking more questions from the SA which finally got him to say "we COULD do it on the winter wheels, but it is so far out of toe we really want to use the OEM wheels so we can get it correct with the best accuracy."

Out of interest, I wondered whether they can use the same alignment hub adapter for older 5x120mm bolt pattern wheels and current 5x112mm ones. Measured the pitch circle of the adapter holes on the M2, they have stayed at 120mm, so BMW doesn't use a different adapter for the different era of wheels.

My car was out of alignment as well. I took my car in at 1177 for the break-in service and asked for an alignment. I let the service advisor know that I did not receive an indication that an alignment was performed at the port when the MPHAS was installed. The young service advisor was clueless. He came back to me to tell me I had to pay for the alignement. I said, it is also under warranty. Again, he was clueless. I asked him to do the alignment. Within 5 minutes I brought a photo of the warranty book stating the alignment (balancing and wipers too) are covered up to 2000 miles. He walked away and came back with an older gentleman who explained they only do the alignment if there is an issue. So I told him it was pulling to the left. He said really and I said no but if that is what you need to hear. I don't understand why they want to argue. The dealership is reimbursed by BMW. In the end I can't tell a difference in the alignment but I now know my tire should wear evenly.

I also asked for the setting height on my suspension. I am at 621MM at the front and 630/633MMMM at the rear. Based on the target data I am all the way down.

So what are others measuring for the front in rear with MPHAS?

might be a dumb question but if im gonna ask for the sub 2k mi alignment and I put spacers on will they refuse with the spacers?
would removing them just for the alignment be the best idea or dont worry about it? 12/15mms

Just remove them and eliminate any questions. Only takes a couple of minutes to avoid issues.

I did not get any questions and I have 15MM all around. I would start off with, "I feel it pulling left......". Good luck.

Yeah I told them “oh yeah I can feel the car pulling to the right when under hard acceleration.” No questions at all to do the alignment.

Thanks to the forum and to all who commented / recommended on getting an alignment in this thread.
I just had my break in service completed and requested the dealer to take a look at the alignment under the warranty. My car also had a slight rightward drift to it when driving straight. Camber/caster was all within spec from the factory, but all 4 toe measurement were out of spec. Great to get it fixed, and under warranty as well.

Anyone have luck getting a warrantied alignment after installing an aftermarket HAS kit? I assume I know the answer but figured someone might have tried successfully....

At the dealership right now for my break in service, asked them to look at the alignment and wheel balance, and sure enough the advisor was clueless about those two items being covered by the factory warranty, so I showed him the warranty statement from BMW, and suddenly having them look at it added another 2 hours to my already 2-3 hour wait time for the break in service. What a bunch of bullshit.

Just adding my experience:

First off, thanks everyone for sharing your info, experience and knowledge. Very helpful.

I could tell from day 1 my M2 was out of alignment. Very twitchy on center, wheel was off center at dead straight and very little “feel”

The dealer I purchased from wasn’t interested in alignment during my break in service. Lots of BS, used the info on this thread to ask again nicely and was still not getting anywhere.

So I went to my local indy shop as I trust them to it right. Figured if I’m paying, might as well have a competent tech do the work.

Very glad I did, toe and camber were off by some margin. I do not have HAS installed just stock suspension so I was a bit surprised by it being off as much as it was.

Anyway- all in spec now and it feels much better. More sure footed, less twitchy, and most of all I am getting a little better “feel” out of the front end.

Dealer experience in my area is rather poor. It’s too bad as these are fantastic cars.

If you are reading this thread and haven’t had an alignment yet, just go do it.

Good for you. Thanks for this.

You should email that dealer the before and after, along with the bill. Insist they reimburse your or start raising hell with BMW. You brought them your concern, about which you were correct, gave them a chance, and they refused under warranty? F them.

Followed the advice here and asked to check the alignment during break-in and sure enough it was off from the factory (no HAS). I just paid for it to save time as SA wasn't collaborative.
However my dealer wasn't able to get the alignment right and they told me they just couldn't do it , lol. Did 3 attempts and told me their alignment machine is broken or something, unbelievable. Sigh, I guess I'll be coming again, don't know how much I trust my dealer with any service now.
