Midwestern winter here and I like to open the sunroof and sunny days but it seems I'm not opening it anymore until spring.

I had it opened, closed it and when attempting to open it again this came up. All daring the same drive cycle.

Yeah, my best bet is that they don't want any ice build up in or around the sunroof and that's why the temperature requirement.

I could take it to the dealership and have them sit the car indoors and the perform the procedure but I hate going to the dealership.

And I don't have a garage. So I'm stuck without sunroof for a little while.

I also had a problem with the sunroof needing initialization. (Being in Australia, the temperature was not a problem...)
It still wouldn't initialize so it went to the dealer, who replaced a faulty part (I'd have to look up what it was) and all was good again.
So I suggest trying the initialization first if you can wait, but if that doesn't work it's a dealer fix.

I had the issue a few months ago. I had the sunroof motor replaced under warranty.

I came across with other post in another forum and it looks like many part replacement. Because of this, I will be scheduling a dealership visit and I'll keep you all posted.
