CSZ Equal Length Midpipe

I've just spent the last hour reading this thread on the G80 forum where it seems they have achieved some of the best S58 exhaust notes I've heard.

None of these seem to sound like the AA EL midpipes, with the exception of the X3M

Unfortunately the G87 EL Midpipe from CSZ seems to have a different design to the G80 and I haven't been able to hear many clips under load that do it justice. (Edit: Maybe the G87 exhaust pic they used on facebook is wrong, looks like a different exhaust)

I used to think the sound of the big single midpipe was decent but I think this thread has ruined it lol. Anyone know why the big companies haven't been able to achieve this sound? Or have they and I just haven't discovered the thread?

Thanks to forcefed for being the guinea pig and posting his findings.

im my opinion, equal length, regardless of the design, and G87 do not go well if you want a clean sound.

The single midpipe is the best option to achieve a clean sound, if you want a more aggressive tone and done , mind the extra noise, thats when the equal length shines.

I see the word clean written a lot but to me those g80’s sound clean. I guess I’m trying to work out why those sound like they do and the AA EL’s don’t seem to sound like that at all?

Hey, so I have this midpipe from CSZ and wanted to give some background as I feel it's the best-sounding option at the moment. A while back I was discussing the design of the midpipe with the OP of the G80 thread. He had the idea and took the plunge with CSZ.

So the X3M equal length midpipe from AA has this design, but like you said, AA's EL midpipe for the G8x was different and didn't really sound equal length. That's the split design with the one squiggle section that you posted above. We found that another company overseas had a good-sounding EL midpipe that looked a lot like the X3M design. So OP asked CSZ if they could adapt the X3M design they currently make to the G80/2 and they did without issue!

Like you, this is the sound I've been after. I know single is the the preferred sound by many on here, but to me it's not the tone I want.

I haven't had a chance to install the midpipe yet. Hoping to do so next week.

I'm sure if you contact CSZ (I worked with Emily) they will make this design for the G87.

Yes! You absolutely get it! Would you be able to provide an update and some pics in this thread? Are you using stock DP's and muffler? Would love to know the exact config of resonated/x pipe that you used too.

Thanks and keen to hear your findings.

Definitely! So I went with the OP's configuration as shown below (This is a picture I took of mine):

Ideally, I would have liked resonators to potentially clean up any harshness, but 1) at the time of order, CSZ told me it wasn't possible to do both the X and resonators; I'd have to choose one or the other. Ultimately, I feel the X is required to get the proper sound so I went that route. and 2) Based on the videos OP posted of this same set up, it sounds incredible with no rasp!

I will be using stock DPs and muffler, too. I have no plans to change either, so it should sound just like the videos OP posted in the G80 thread.

Another benefit of this configuration is that I can reuse the OEM cross-brace. I was never a fan of having to use a new, lower-hanging brace with the single mids.

Yea, sorry. Should be very similar in tone between the two platforms, but yea hopefully can get some decent clips for everyone.

Not sure why it won't embed, but here's a quick 30 second video I took of the midpipe installed on my G80. I absolutely love it! I'll try to get some exterior clips of it once the weather cooperates.

I'm speaking with Emily from CSZ and ordering for my G87. This is the best sounding midpipe with stock rear and downpipes. It sounds like a single-turbo setup.

I've been looking at so many exhaust configurations and gave up. I heard countless single and equal-length out in the real world and they all exhibit that weird farty, 3-cylinder sound. At the end of the day it was just bad no matter what the vendors were trying, until recently.
I heard an X3M near where I live who had the AA EL. I asked the owner and he mentioned it's the AA EL, but it's different from the other platforms. I started googling and found this thread that linked to the G80 thread that mentioned CSZ since AA doesn't make that configuration for the other cars.

Overall, it looks like the single bend along with the longer straight sections leading to the x-pipe contribute in fixing the inline-6 sound. I'm ordering their standard version (2.75" and no resonators).

This was my exact situation too... I'm so happy with the 2.75" non-res version. Exactly the sound I was looking for with this motor.

That's for the G80 version but you can chat with Emily directly and ask if they can make this for the G87.
