Cimarossa, Reverie, and Watermark.

SFO was our best option with direct flights. Rented a car, stopped in Sausalito for a couple hours to grab lunch and walk around a bit on our drive up to the Napa area. It's an awesome town to see if you've never been there.
Sausalito is the best place to live in the Bay. Absolutely beautiful. Close enough to SF, and also far enough away lol. Big seconds to Sausalito

If I could've afforded Sausalito it would've been my permanent spot. Too beautiful to miss.

Hello All! Bringing this thread back to life!

Wife and I did not make it last year to Napa. We decided to take our daughter to Disney.

So, we decided recently that we want to go to Napa this March. We are having a hard time finding places to stay. A lot of bad reviews on resorts that look promising. Need some help!

Thanks!

We are going at the end of January, but I'm afraid I am no help. We have been there maybe 4 times already, but we don't do much wine drinking. The wife has a relative that lives right in St. Helena and we typically stay with her. We fly into SFO and will do some hiking in Muir and over in Santa Rosa area, and I'm thinking of running a trail race February 1st from Rodeo beach. We are more outdoorsy than the typical valley visitor.

I have toured most of the major wineries and a couple smaller ones, but without knowing your tastes I can't recommend anything you can't quickly research on Google. I'm more likely to eat at a brewery

Good luck and have fun!

I don't like wine, but my friend lives in Sacramento so I have been a few times when visiting him. Honestly, probably because I don't care for wine, most of the wineries seemed like a rip off to me. Gimme $50 here's 4 tiny sips of wine, now fuck off.

The ONLY one I remember that was kinda cool was this one place where you took like a gondola thing from the parking up to the winery. Then it was basically like a self guided winery tour with stops along the way to get your next sample. That's the only one I enjoyed. The wine might be shit for all I know but the place was pretty cool. Maybe someone knows the name, I'll see if I can find it on my phone later.

Another place I love is the empanada shop inside the Oxbow Public Market. They make the best empanadas I've ever had! Also recall doing an olive oil tasting at some olive grove, that was interesting and a good change from wine wine wine.

Thank you for the info! We are big wine drinkers and love red wine. Not so much white.

Thank you for the help! The gondola ride sounds pretty awesome!

I have already written down the empanada place to go try! I plan on mapping everything out once we have a place to stay booked. Thanks!

To add to the Oxbow experience, try out Live Fire Pizza. Tell Susan, Rich (from Naples) recommended you stop by!

Hendry is one of our favorites in Napa- it was the first winery we did a tasting at when we lived in CA years ago. We also like Hall Winery (previously mentioned)- were members for a few years. Last time we were in Napa we had some extra time and stubbled upon Cuvaison Winery. Really nice tasting room and as we were the only people there for a tasting (it was a weekday in the middle of winter) we had a really nice experience, and got to taste some extra wine. We wound up joining their wine club and have future enjoyed everything they send us.

Morimoto's is always a good meal and last time we went to Napa we went to Ad Hoc (owned by Thomas Keller). We thought the meal blew away what we had at The French Laundry.

Recommend flying into SFO and getting a rental car. Also if you are looking for a company to do a tour with (private or with a group-we've done both with them), we swear by Platypus Wine tours.

Thank you for the recommendations! I have about a dead set 4-5 we want to go to so I am pretty open to places that others have gone to and loved it! I will make sure to put it on my list.

Sacramento is the #1 choice so far as they have the best price, best layover time. But I keep checking daily for price changes.

Thanks!
