How bad is this M240i deal?

Have an offer on an M240i xDrive. How much harder should I push?

MSRP: $57,755
Discount: -$2,500
Doc fee: $999
Prep fee: $700
Total: $56,954.

They said invoice is $54,455.

I thought we were close but then they mention the prep fee out of nowhere. Planning to go in person Tuesday or Wednesday to finish negotiations.

Car is Vegas red metallic with black interior.

OPTION PACKAGES
PREMIUM PACKAGE Adaptive Full LED Lights, Universal Garage-Door Opener, Live Cockpit Pro w/Head-Up Display, Heated Steering Wheel, Automatic High Beams, ACTIVE CRUISE CONTROL, LUMBAR SUPPORT, REMOTE ENGINE START, SHADOWLINE PACKAGE M Sport Brakes w/Red Calipers, M Sport Package Pro, sprint function and rear spoiler in black, M Shadowline Lights.

Seems high to me, but I haven’t bought a car in in a while and this will be my first BMW. I was willing to let the doc fee stay if they came down on MSRP, but the prep fee through me a curveball.

Also you may get a better response if you post in the G42 forums, instead of here (the G87 forums). Just saying.

Doc fee is nuts but they usually don't move on that, would have to compare to other dealers in your state.

Price is meh, you can absolutely get more off. I got 3k off on an ordered car in November, someone else got 5k off on an ordered car.

Yeah we bought my wife’s Audi in 2022 but don’t remember it that high. I have to find the paperwork. I though it would be a few hundred bucks.

I've never paid more than $150 doc fee, and that "prep" fee is nonsense. They get paid by BMW to PDI the car.

That’s not a deal, it’s the normal price of the car.

The problem is when you go to the 2-series G42 forums, the G87 forums are at the top, and you have to scroll down to the G42 section. The way it should be is like the G80 forums, which is a completely different section than the G20 forums.

Doc fee cap in New York is $175 from a Google search. Some states do not have a cap, but it certainly pays to be aware of what caps exist on a state by state basis.

This^^^^

We’ve purchased cars in 5 states and the doc fee was different in all of them.
However, to some extent, the fee is negotiable depending on the dealer.

Things must have changed since I ordered my '24 in July of '23. When I bought mine, list or higher was the norm.

I got only $1K off msrp and then they added back a $599 doc fee. Thot I got a decent deal.

The OP's car would have been a good deal back in '23.

Prep fee?
$1000 doc fee?

Doc fee is no more than $150-200 here in California.

If you want the car, tell them to take $1500 off to cover the two bogus fees, if not, walk.
Theres plenty of 240is you can buy from countless dealerships, this isn't exactly an individual M car.

Agreed. Pulled out my paperwork for my M2 & you can see the fee breakdown below. I simply don't buy from dealerships that add bogus fees, "dealer packages", etc., to the price of the car. There are plenty of cars out there, it's not 2022 anymore.

Man, the one thing I do hate is these fake "dealership package" nonsense. My local VW dealer has this stupid rear brake light thing that they "install" on every car for something crazy like $699 or $899. Or their 'protection package' that's like a few strips of thin vinyl on door edges. I told them to kick rocks if they even thought about charging me for that shit when I bought the last car from there. I didn't consent to putting those packages on the car, so you shouldn't "install" them in the first place. Some BMW dealers do this too. I test drove a new X3 50i yesterday and the dealer had like rock protection package for $700, something like that. So nonsensical.

Sewell BMW, BMW of Arlington, BMW of McKinney, BMW of South Austin (all Hendricks dealerships in my area do this), are some of the BMW dealerships in my areas that all add their "dealer protection" pkg to every car on the lot that consists of "door edge guards, window tint, and nitrogen filled tires". This generally adds $999 - $1,299 to the price of the vehicle.

As a buyer, I think I need to add my own package to the deal.
"Tier 1 Credit Score package"
"Did research package"
"Common sense package"
"Not a complete dumbass package"

If you bundle all of those packages up, that should be like $10K off the car.
