As far as I am aware, BMW have not ordered any 1/64 scales of the G87 so you will not find these at your local dealer.

At the moment, the ones from Howie Model mentioned above can be pre-ordered from various sellers on Ali Express.

Got round to buying the more basic Welly M2, I shall wait to see that the Minichamps cost when they are (eventually) released in the UK.

Happy with my little baby version of the M2.....

I had no one to whom I could make calls, and wasted enough time in the toy section of local retailers, so spent $12.04 via eBay on the $1 toy. Mine arrived today... oddly satisfying.

Don't feel bad. The Hot Wheel hobby is full of some sick degenerates who live and breath getting the jump on a "fresh case". Go to a local Target or Walmart at opening and you will see someone who is there every single morning, or at least knows the delivery schedule and are there like clockwork. They will box out moms from accessing toys just so they can get what they want first. They will buy anything "hot" and leave none for the kids just to flip them on ebay for a couple bucks of "profit".

That being said, about 10 years ago I would frequent the toy aisle to get some Hot Wheels, then drive to the closest store and island hop until I was satisfied. I did meet some cool collectors, willing to share their "finds" and nerd out on what's coming out next etc. For every cool collector, there was always the ones that took it to heroin addict levels that really turned me off to the hobby.

I see plenty of the red M2 Matchbox (my brand of choice as a child) on eBay, but my question is this: Is this currently for sale in stores, but just scarce/sought after? Or is it no longer for sale in retail and you just have to find it where you can on a secondary market? If still available at retail, where? I see reference to Target and Walmart, but where else?

For bonus points, is it straight up madness and or heresy to think I could carefully mask and paint this red one, once I have it, with touch up paint in my color (Brooklyn Grey)? Is that a thing?

I don’t think they are in stores yet. I had to get mine on eBay. Customizing Hot Wheels and Diecasts in general are a thing.

1. Remove the body from the frame by drilling out the rivets
2. Spray some paint remover on the body
3. Use a combination of steel wool and sandpaper to completely strip the body of paint.
4. Prime
5. Sand primer
6. Paint
7. Clear coat
8. Print some waterslide decals for the headlights, grill, badges, and rear tail lights or use paint pens.
9. Reattach base

And while I’m happy to know repainting is a thing, I doubt I’ve got the patience or really even the interest to execute those steps. Red it is!
