If this goes on through the summer, I am just going to cancel my order and buy one that is already here...depending on what pricing is here of course. I would also then be option to 2024 models as well.

Dang, my car just updated to the ready for transport status a few days ago, and now this happens. Looks like going with Voodoo blue might have screwed me over with how long it delayed the production of the car.

It uses scraped information from the web with no accuracy check.

It absolutely spits out garbage as questions and refinement get more complex.

Don't attempt to have it write a paper...

Don't ever ask LLM's about facts, they simply cannot.

Like if you search for a vehicles curb weight or any other specs 75% of the time it will return complete garbage. On one car it returned 5 different weights and ALL 5 were wrong.

Same with me, I went into ready for transport on Jan. 18. Guess we will be the guinea pigs.

Sucks that it's possible it comes down to either paying a higher price or not taking delivery. But, worrying about a new BMW M car on order is not the worst problem to have.

This would likely also make the used ones go up in price, since the alternative (buying a new one) would now be much more expensive.

I agree but I am assuming (I know I know) they would still be a fair amount cheaper than buying new.

I don’t think anyone has really spoken to the integrated supply chain that is the auto manufacturers with their parts suppliers. I heard some stat that says parts cross 6 borders before the car is even made back and forth. Whatever that means exactly but you get the point.

My reading, including listening to Canadian auto group leadership speak, it’s feasible that production lines shut down in just days. I’m just putting it out there, I know someone else knows better and I’m likely wrong, but integrated supply chains are real.

Time to watch the 🎆

I totally agree. LLMs are very good at analyzing patterns in for example cancer scans and highlighting problems, but have too diverse and not quality checked input that just weight facts based more on frequency of mention vs accuracy.

Last week I was looking for the tapping drill size for a 9/16”-20 bicycle pedal, the AI answer that I ignored was 37/64”, obviously wrong as the thread major diameter is only 36/64”. Pity someone who actually used this info, drilled the hole, then found the tap just fell straight through it!

‘Hallucinations’ of AI LLMs where complete garbage (effectively lies) are generated which have no basis in reality, have many documented examples these days.

This is the effect the Canadian ‘Trucker’ protest had after just 6 days of shutting down the movement of goods at one major border crossing, hitting automotive production lines in both Canada and the US: https://www.automotivelogistics.medi.../42733.article

Some automotive industry analysts are saying that all North American production lines could be affected within a week of the tariffs going into affect, disrupting the whole integrated supply chain for all manufacturers, parts suppliers and plants.

Fine, I'll play.

It's not the assertion about incorrect info that bothers me (because you are correct in that regard), it's (1) your negative sentiment towards ChatGPT as a whole, and (2) your act of talking down to me, as though I am one of your 9th graders.

For reasons unknown (what I can only conclude is an attempt to present yourself as some kind of savant on an anonymous car forum where no one gives a shit - probably a byproduct of you taking yourself too seriously), you're speaking in generalities and blanket statements instead of actually addressing the specifics re: relevant history, precedent (lack thereof), and potential angles for exemptions & workarounds. [Mods, this part is relevant to our discussion of G87s]. So, what exactly did it get wrong for us within this context? How did it lead us astray? How were we harmed?

You say "it spits out incorrect information," to which I reply: duhhh. You're supposed to refine its output and vet what it gives you, not blindly accept anything it spits out. It's a tool, an aid - not a standalone, foolproof, all-encompassing solution to life. As far as your students go, I would analogize this to curse words with children. You can try to shield the kids from the outside world and pretend that the F-word doesn't exist, leaving them to learn from nefarious outside actors, or, you can take it upon yourself to inform them of these words and explain to them why they shouldn't (or how they can) be used. It appears that you may fall into the latter category, and if so, I commend you. For me, GPT has been an invaluable resource that has streamlined professional, academic, business, and personal workload, and the return on investment has been exponential.

No interest in a dick-measuring contest but I practice law for a living and can vouch for the carefully-tailored use of ChatGPT. I was very dismissive at first and held out for a long time, but I've been converted, lol. As far as I know, most law schools have mandatory informational seminars on AI, as well as actual dedicated course offerings on the subject as part of their curriculum. Do you think this is because legal institutions/professionals are objectively stupid, or because the integration of AI is inevitable and can help move the needle forward?

To dismiss it entirely and insinuate worthlessness (I find value in Wikipedia sometimes as well.. sue me) is fundamentally misguided and intellectually lazy. You're certainly entitled to your opinion though, and worst case, we'll agree to disagree.

*No animals were harmed - and no AI was used - in the making of this comment*
