I work in manufacturing and supply chain ops and we have a large presence in Mexico. What we are more worried about is the Mexican government mandates for wage increases that started happening in the past couple years and are planned to be ongoing. We are seeing our costs go up and we are exploring other countries to move our production too just in case it becomes not sustainable keeping it in Mexico. We have an opinion on tariffs of course but since the impacts can be very unpredictable we focus on the wage increases as a challenge as we feel it and can predict what the the impact will be.

The entertainment value from this thread alone make the tariffs worth it imo

Ordered an M2 back in December, which is currently starting build process in end of January. I talked to my dealer once the tariffs hit yesterday to ask what the impact would be.
They stated it shouldn’t be an issue / will cross the road once we get there (not sure i believe this). They also stated though we’ve agreed to terms and I’ve paid deposit, they have the right to change the delivery cost to account for the pricing tariffs if need be. I’m not surprised by them trying to pass cost through, but im annoyed that price was previously communicated at purchase / deposit as being locked. What are others who’s have builds in flight hearing from dealers / options to get around. I’m definitely not paying 25% more an m2 and most likely won’t pay a dime more out of principle. My car has been in "Ready for Transport" status since January 14. Be interesting to see how this shakes out. I already felt like G87 pricing was a bit rich so I won't be too happy about any increases. Can't see upselling myself into an M3/M4 since there are more compelling vehicles for the money. May end up sticking with my low-mileage F87 M2C a bit longer -- I can inhale what remains of the new car smell and re-live the experience.

Some of the largest trade groups in the world have been unable to extract any information from the current admin. on how these tariffs will be implemented - it’s clear there is no working plan yet on how this will be implemented. At this point, BMW most likely has the same information that you do on how these tariffs. The latest view atleast from the US O&G trade/lobbying groups is that the blanket tariffs will be very hard, if at all possible to implement since the infrastructure and US Customs manpower to support these tariffs do not exist. Second view is that blanket exceptions may start coming soon as the Trump admin starts understanding what the impacts are of the sanctioned tariffs. I was on a call recently with an official from the newly formed admin., one of the largest US Oil and Gas trade orgs, and a politician from a midwestern state. It was quite a shock to the newly appointed admin. that over half of Midwest* and Rocky Mountain* refiners an are configured to refine Canadian crude - which I’m sorry is common sense to anyone who’s ever worked in the downstream industry in the past 3 decades in this country. I would expect BMW and the auto industry is encountering the same kind of headaches - but it leaves the door open to the possibility of mass blankets happening as the Trump admin. starts understanding what the impacts will be on US consumers (or maybe they decide to ignore impacts and continue with the blanket tariffs - who knows since there are no rules yet on how these tariffs would even be implemented even though they are set to be implemented by… someone?) *Defined as PADD 2 and 4 for those in the industry Last edited by VR1; Today at 10:34 AM.. |

Don’t get me wrong, I’d drive an M4 in a heartbeat, but mainly due to X-Drive and increased power. I’d have to cringe every time ‘I’d look at that front face.

Did he not say M4 as well? You also counter with paying MORE when the whole point is the poster said he's already not willing to pay more.

That’s completely irrelevant the the question or the compelling options the OP posted. I get it - you don’t like the G80/2 front, but that has absolutely nothing to do with the conversation at hand. Fortunately for me, I could care less about what you think.

You don’t care about my opinion, but commented on my post unsolicited with a completely irrelevant response. Then you think my feelings are hurt?! Why’s that? Because you think the front end of a G80/2 is ugly? Lol, you’re delusional and have provided absolutely nothing to this conversation.
This has to be one of the dumbest conversations I’ve ever had… Last edited by robopp; Today at 12:46 PM.. |

Does anyone know if this is true?
BMW's plant in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, produces the 3 Series, 2 Series Coupe and M2, with nearly all output going to the U.S. and other markets worldwide, according to the carmaker. From 2027, it will produce the all-electric Neue Klasse model line. |

If you can watch this video and still think that tariffs are a good idea, then well... you didn't understand the video
Anyway, pretty clear explanation of what will happen due to tariffs, as unbiased a look as you could hope to get.
