I was almost going to pick out a very closely spec'ed to my order car this morning but honestly I thought, eh I'm going to wait until my April delivery to see what's going to happen. There's a lot to be determined here, it's obvious, and it may end up having a review that rescinds/stalls etc. the grandstanding going on by this administration. Right now it's a lot of "We're big and bad look at us" decisions going on. I'll give it time when it comes to my m2 purchase. If it's marked up higher and I still want it, then i'll get it.

Otherwise, I'll check out lightly used ones.

Anyway, pretty clear explanation of what will happen due to tariffs, as unbiased a look as you could hope to get.
Very interesting video. Thanks for sharing

will used prices go up or down as an orphan model if this plays out to its logical conclusion (cancellation of the nameplate for the US market)? i think it will depend on BMWs response in the lineup. i've hypothesized previously that BMW might bring over G80/2 "pure" (read: stripper) models like they did down under for the F80s. i think if BMW appropriately fills the baby M car vacancy in such a fashion that used M2 prices might actually get weaker.

i would imagine the next 7 days will give us a lot of clarity. for all we know this tariff lasts about as long as the Columbian one did.

Hate to break it to any that is thinking of getting an M3/4 if the M2 is no longer feasible. Tariffs have also been proposed for the EU. No idea when those would go into effect through, but it appears it would be sometime in the very near future.

Porsche owners are going to start to argue over who paid the most ADM plus tariffs.

There is about a $10-12K jump from M2 to M3/M4 based on my specs and that gets up to $90K or so. At that point I start thinking about getting back into a 718 Cayman or Spyder for a bit more money, or getting one of the collector cars on my wishlist like a first-gen NSX.

I guess I felt like the M2 was a good price point to be at (dare I use the phrase "good value") but the M3/M4 not so much.

Pre-owned M3/M4 may make more sense if I can find a nice one. They take a hefty depreciation hit in the first couple years.

The tariff will be on the price sold to BMW USA. This has to be a real price or they will fine and claw back money from BMW.

For tried some shenanigans with van imports and got caught.
Work around for BMW NA to have a Mexico delivery program ASAP similar to the former European Delivery program, as the M2 would be considered a used car when BMW AG imports/sells to BMW NA and would subject to a reduction in the tariff amount.

Just imagine if the XM was assembled in Mexico. Talk about a tariff.

I appreciate the response, but I don’t get how you can go from a M3 to a 718 or NSX. They’re completely different use cases. If you have no kids - 1000% a two seater something. If you have a kid, that rear seat is nice. I have a 911 speced by me with no rear seat and a X3MC. I drove the 911 2000 miles last year and that was an effort. Granted my kid’s 3, but still. I’m buying my M3 because it’s something I think I’ll actually use and I won’t feel so bad about not driving my 911.

Just for reference, I quite successfully move my kids around in my 240. 4 and 2, can't really comfortably fit a passenger up front at the moment but that will eventually change.

Evenflo 360 means that the rear facing seat is only backwards when she is in it.

What, you want this to be logical? Did I accidentally stray into the sensible transportation forum? I have an oddball mix of sports cars and these all fit into a broad category of dumb MT sports cars to spend money on.

Fair enough! I was honestly just hoping you’d open my eyes to something I hadn’t considered, but I’m all onboard the dumb MT cars! I have a similar addiction/blindness

The cars listed above literally don’t have backseats…

No way! Jesus man you think I'm stupid or something?

People generally say you shouldn't/ can't use the m2 for kids, but you definitely can. The only thing that really would be tough is 0-9mos because you'd basically have to leave the passenger seat forward.

My G82 M4 came $97k almost fully specced except for the carbon seats. The only 718 that can compare to a G82 is the GTS which starts at $99k and with comparable options comes to $110k. The 718 is not nearly as daily drivable as the G80/G82 and not as good a GT cruiser. It’s a true sports car with sports car compromises.

Of course, the G87 has more bang for the buck, and a different enough driving experience compared to the G80/2 to convince me to trade my M4 for one, but that doesn’t mean the G80/2 isn’t a good price point. It’s such a great vehicle for the money.
