Do we know if this will have limited function on the new idrive software in 2025 models? I know Bimmercode got nerfed a bit by the new software.

Does anyone know of a G42 owner that has purchased this. Not sure what it can do on that vehicle. Any input canDO_stef?

canDO+ supports the G42 and there are a few out there. The main differences are no M1/M2 buttons, so no Triggers, same for "M Mode", "Drift Mode", "Track Mode". On the G42, you instead get Actions for Sport Mode Sport Plus Mode Sport Individual Mode Eco Mode Eco Individual Mode The rest of the functionality is the same. If you are in the US, distribution is handled by Kies Motorsports, and afaik, their stock is G8X, so you have two choices: ask them to update the FW to G4X, or place the order and contact us for instructions specific to the G8X->G4X FW update. It's pretty easy either way! |

Turns out that iDrive 8.5 doesn't code the same way as 8.0 for heated seats, so a custom action is required.
Stef over at canDO was very helpful and together via online chat figured it out. We were even able to figure out the Heated steering wheel action for 8.5. Stef told me canDO would work on these findings for a future Firmware update. (I'm currently using v1.7.2) The customer service and speed of communication is top notch. So, for those with canDO and 8.5 that would like to have heated seats and steering wheel associations these are the actions you would need to add (you can name them anything you like). Driver Heat 3: 209#FFFFFFFFF8FFFFFF Driver Heat 2: 209#FFFFFFFFF7FFFFFF Driver Heat 1: 209#FFFFFFFFF6FFFFFF Driver Heat Off: 209#FFFFFFFFF5FFFFFF Passenger Heat 3: 209#FFFFFFFFFFF8FFFF Passenger Heat 2: 209#FFFFFFFFFFF7FFFF Passenger Heat 1: 209#FFFFFFFFFFF6FFFF Passenger Heat Off: 209#FFFFFFFFFFF5FFFF Steering Heat On: 214#FFFF8FFFFFFFFFFF Steering Heat Off: 214#FFFF5FFFFFFFFFFF

New iDrive 8.5 firmware is now available with fixes for heated seats, and additional functionality for heated steering wheel.
Please contact us if you have iDrive 8.5 for instructions for this update. An extra step, this time only, is required to pick up iD8.5-specific firmware. Stef |

Does anyone know whether you can use this at the same time as an AIM Solo2 DL plugged into the CAN-bus? From BMW DIY Guy's install video of this canDO+, it appears this plugs in by the transmission, while in dirtyfreebooter's install he plugs the AIM Solo2 DL into the CAN-bus by the passenger footwell. My goal is to be able to hit M1 at the track and go into track mode, while also recording throttle and brake data into the AIM.
Working with the CAN-bus is all new to me so figured someone may know right off the bat. Thank you! |
