CarMax 2022 11k miles, thoughts?

View this BMW M240 XI for sale in Laurel, MD on carmax.com https://www.carmax.com/car/26840616

https://www.carmax.com/car/26840616/vehicle-history

I have this car reserved (free shipping to my local store). No commitment to buy. Black wouldn't have been my first choice because it's hard to keep clean, however with Tacora red interior, it suits the car nicely!

I also like the pre LCI features!

I test drove a 2024 and I didn't like the shifter nub, wrap around screen, and touchscreen climate controls.

This car also appears to have ZTK pack! I'll need to visually inspect the car when it arrives, but the history report is clean! The cars entire life has been in Maryland. Considering the looming tariffs the price is attractive as well! CarMax adds $599 fee.

$50600 includes VA tax. I would owe DMV registration fees.

In-service date appears to be May 2022. 4yr BMW warranty expires May 2026.

Anyway...please share your thoughts. What if anything should I look for or be aware of when I go to view the car? Other than obvious things...

Thanks!

Looks great. Very low miles. xDrive.

On another note - I am very happy to see our cars holding value so well.

Seems like a fair price. Ran a KBB on it and the fair price was what Carmax is asking. I would factor in the price of an extended warranty if you plan to keep it past the 2026 expiration which I assume you would. Just food for thought. I am picking up my 2025 Saturday and got 10% off MSRP. I know you're not a fan of the current setup, but for a few $K more (which could be the cost of an extended warranty) you would have a brand new car, color you want, and 4 year warranty.
That being said, can't go wrong either way as that is a nice spec on the 22.

Can't believe anyone would unironically recommend an extended warranty. Scam.

Valid points, assuming (big assumption especially with potential Trump tariff) I get a 10% off deal, this spec would be $55k w/o tax/title. I would however get the full warranty. Here is what CarMax offers:

Is it possible to look up the window sticker on this car? Looking at the pictures I believe it's fully loaded. The seat pattern is Vernasca leather, and it appears Tacora red isn't an option on 2025 BMW build site. Perhaps it was in 2022. Having the window sticker would be great!

See my screenshot. While the warranty period is 60mo, it runs concurrent. Considering the factory warranty has 1 year remaining, I would actually be losing 1 year of what I paid for. So these prices are for 4 yrs as it applies to this vehicle. I also don't like the fact that I have a deductible when I use it! Could the warranty pay for itself? Sure...but unlikely. BMWs are quality machines and this car wont be abused. My gut is telling no extended warranty.

1) extended warranties have exclusions. They also can restrict where you can get work done.

2) they do not cover wear items, which are the bulk of costs of driving the first 100k of a vehicle

3) it is highly unlikely you will use the money you've paid in initially (plus opportunity cost) if the extended warranty was worth the proce they charge stasticially, then they would charge more money for it. They are making a profit off of fear.

Extended warranties are targeted at buyers who literally cannot afford to repair their car, and really only have utility if you routinely run your bank account to overdraft.

If you are considering an aftermarket warranty, get a quote for the one you would buy, then put that purchase price in an easily liquid investment vehicle. Self warranty.

If you cannot afford to pay cash for the aftermarket warranty, that's a good sign you cannot afford the car you are buying.

You can plug the vin into one of the bmw vin lookup sites and it’ll give you a list of all the options on the car

Thanks! This car appears to have every useful option I would want. Red vernasca leather, shadowline, red brakes, 893M wheels, remote start, lumbar, HK audio...

It appears to not have the high performance additional cooling package, nor the parking asst package. Neither is needed for my use case.

Excited to see it in person next week!

It has ZTK, only way to get the wheel arches

Yeah that makes sense. I noticed on the BMW M240i build site once you select the 893M wheels it automatically adds the cooling pkg and wheel arches. It's hard to decipher the code descriptions on mdecoder. The descriptions aren't very clear.

Based on the picture of the backup camera display, I'm fairly certain the car does not have the parking assistance pkg which is fine.

If you have a moment, can you please tell me what the car does NOT have? Thanks in advance!

Looks like a good buy. But I personally would do a prepurchase inspection at BMW within the first 30 days to make sure everything is within bmw specs. Carmax service is different from bmw’s.

Good suggestion, but I doubt CarMax will allow a PPI. They aren't going to let me take it to BMW for inspection before purchase. I've done PPI for private sales but not at a dealer/CarMax.

Worth mentioning that CarMax has a 10 day no questions asked return policy.

True. I’ve done it before within the 3-day test drive period over a weekend. Little stuff like wrong oil filter size, leaking suspension components were some things I was able to have them replace before the window closed

I doubt a BMW with 11k miles on it has ever been touched by anyone but a dealer, especially if it appears to be unmodified.

if a car has more miles on it then its absolutely good practice to get a PPI, but in this case I would expect that PPI to turn up a whole lotta nothin.

One thing you can do is have the BMW dealer run the VIN and get the cars service history from them. That way you can see if there was some major issue with the car. Given the age and mileage I would wager it's either just an old owner who didn't drive much, or it was a loaner car for a dealer.

I tend to agree. This appears to be an unmodified barely driven car. I believe if anything is wrong it will be purely cosmetic and judging from the pictures it looks pretty damn good! I'm stoked!
