03/15/2024 - Turner Motorsport Carbon Fiber Front Lip

I wanted a lip that was reasonably priced so that I could replace it without killing my wallet since the car will be tracked, and my driveway is murder on lips.

I had 5 I was considering:
  1. Lightweight Performance - $795
  2. Turner Motorsport - $765
  3. CT Carbon - $1048
  4. Aeroflow Dynamics - $169
  5. Maxton Front Splitter V5 - $249

After much debate I ordered a front lip from Turner Motorsports. At $765 (and possibly cheaper if you ask nicely! ) it was a great carbon fiber option. Why this lip you ask?
  • Value - I decided I wanted something more aggressive than the Lightweight, which was my first choice. I ultimately also wanted the CF to match with the roof and my trunk spoiler. For a carbon fiber part, this seemed a good price with good build quality. The Maxton is dirt cheap, but reportedly made of cheap plastic that wasn't as sturdy.
  • Not hollowed out - While this lip is still hollow like all CF lips, it's completely enclosed, without the hollow cutout at the bottom unlike the Aeroflow Dynamics. A hollow bottom lip would definitely catch reversing out of my driveway. Plus I don't think a hollowed out bottom is ideal for aerodynamics. Smoother is better for airflow.
  • Just the right size - My steep driveway will not allow large lips with extremely low overhang. This goes up my driveway with only millimeters to spare.
  • Simplicity of design - While the cutout in the middle isn't ideal for me, I wanted something as simple as possible, combined with the above factors it was a compromise I was willing to accept.

Install was simple, it came with 4 bolts (2 long, 2 short) and 2 long screws. 3M double-sided tape was pre-applied on the outer portions of the lip.

Steps were easy:
  1. Remove 6 screws from the bottom of the front bumper. I kept these for safe keeping for the say I want to go back to stock.
  2. Clean up the bumper with alcohol for adhesion.
  3. Line up the lip, with the help of another. My son was my 2nd set of hands for some bonding of both the lip to the bumper and father to son!
  4. Peel off a bit of the 3M tape backing, enough so that I can just pull the remainder off once the lip was hard mounted.
  5. For the mounting screws and bolts, I didn't turn them all the way in just yet to leave room for adjusting:
  6. Use the 2 longer bolts on the two most middle mounting points.
  7. Use the shorter 2 bolts on the next outermost points
  8. Use the 2 long screws for the outermost mounting points.
  9. Peel off the remainder of the backing tape, and press onto the bumper.
  10. Tighten the bolts and screws and admire your new lip!

Super happy with the results, I think this lip looks great! As you can see in the last pic, it barely clears my driveway. Let's see how it holds up!

Attached:
Photo of the set of screws and bolts that came with the lip. The 6 OE screws are on the upper right. They are not long enough to reuse.
Before, during and after photos, a photo of the driveway clearance, and a beauty shot!

That looks really nice! Did you consider adding the IND painted center trim? I think it would look really good with this lip.

I did. I love how it looks from eye level looking down when up close, but from afar, I'm not 100% sure I like it. It looks a bit like a mouth. I need to look at it for awhile and see.

Yeah hard to really tell from the IND pictures and other pictures online. Maybe living in LA you might get lucky to find someone that has it installed and check it out in person.
Personally would love a lip but given my driveway there's no way it will clear it, so really considering the painted bumper trim for mine.

I definitely need to see it in person. FWIW the Lightweight Front Lip was first on my list because it does not extend on the corners of the vehicle, so clearance is less of an issue on my driveway, so maybe it's up your alley!

Funny you mention it. Had bough one for my F80 at the time, and ended up never installing it as I was already scraping my driveway with the stock bumper and MP HAS kit.
Maybe I should just repave my driveway and get the lip I like lol.

The Lightweight on my G82 scrapped all the time, but it's much stronger than a CF lip. I think a CF lip would have shattered on my G82 with the type of abuse the Lightweight Lip took.
