iphone 3G battery problem???

My iPhone 3G is only getting 12 hours of standby. I turned off every power consuming thing except for 3G connection. The iphone is about 3 weeks old. Is this normal?

If the battery is defective, how do I proof to Apple that it is indeed a bad battery? Apple's website says it is defective if the battery holds only 50% of its capacity. What is considered 50%? 6 hours? 12 hours?

Anyone here got their iphone replaced due to a bad battery?

Alright, I'll turn off EVERYTHING except for the 2G connection this time to see how long it would last.

It's crazy that the Iphone is suppose to do all these great stuff, but Apple recommends us to turn EVERYTHING off to save battery. I guess I should carry another phone with me just in case my iphone dies out and I had to make an emergency call.

Don't be surprise if you guys see an iPhone 3G for sale in a few weeks.

my iPhone battery life sucks, so I stopped using my iPod and just use the iPhone as my iPod...

When i'm in the car, it charges and I get my music, try doing that

i have 3g and push feature on with about 50% brightness and im good for a whole day even if i listen to music or browse the web. Maybe you should try the power slider by incase.

The battery issue is probably one of the biggest downside to the Iphone.

I've gone to an external battery for mine. What's the point in having the phone if you turn off all the differentiating features? I did the Mophie battery, I've been very happy with it.

I have absolutely no issues using my iphone 3g all day long. 8am - 2am and I still go strong. If I wake up and hadn't plugged it in, then there is about 20% left.

I have my email on push, wifi on also, vibrate, brightness on 50 with autobrightness, autolock on a minute.

So I went to the Apple store because my iPhone was dead after just 5 hours of standby with only 2G turned on. They plugged my phone into one of their laptops and said: "We'll replace it for ya!"

So I'm happy with the replacement. 15 hours of standby and still more then 75% left!!!

Glad you got a replacement. However as a general rule, 3G is what kills battery life. This isn't just an issue with the iPhone. I have an Android G1 and battery life on that is even worse. My brother has the original iPhone and he can go for almost a week on standby. Like others have said, turn off 3G unless you need it, only turn your brightness up as much as you need, turn off wifi unless you need it, and same for bluetooth. Also restarting your phone frees up memory which also can improve battery life. Those help get me through the day.

Brightness set to 35% 3G on. Music, web, YouTube, facebook all day. End of the day 20%

I'm planning to get this external battery when it comes out later on in Spring. It's not a bad price consider that an average hard case alone cost about $30 anyways.

I would have to disagree with all of the above. I'm on my fourth free Iphone now and have nothing but good things to say about Apple customer service and my battery life is a lot longer than 12 hours.

There's no need to disagree with what we said. If it didn't happen to you, it doesn't mean that it didn't happen to others. I'm sure Apple wouldn't give me a replacement for no reason.

Looks just like mine, except they've added a top piece to it to make it a complete "case". Thumbs up from me, but not sure I'd use the top part. It would be nice if they'd include a pass-through apple connector as well as the USB connection. That would be ideal.

This is suppose to be thinner. The first one is a bit big I think.

The link you provided had dimensions of height: 4.9” width: 2.59” depth: 0.75”. I looked up mine, and it lists dimensions of 2.75 x 4.75 x .75. It lists mine at 1800 mAh, and the new one at 1200 mAh.

Mine is larger by .28 cubic inches, but has 50% more power than the smaller version??? Mine is only .25 inches wider, and while technically shorter, the phone does extend past the edge of the original 3g pack. I'll have to see the new version, I really like the one I have, and for the extra 600mAh, I think I can live with the extra .25 inch width.
