Platinum for me, personal card. I love the travel benefits, and used the hell out of the companion program before they did away with it.
FYI for those saying they have no limit on their charge cards... "No preset spending limit" does not actually mean "no limit". I can guarantee that for most people, there is in fact a limit on the card. Amex bases it on your spending profile, so it adjusts itself accordingly. For example, if you are only spending $3-4k a month on the card and try to charge something for $15-20k, it's going to get declined unless you call Amex first to let them know what's going on and request they authorize the purchase. RRG- Given that you are in college, I assume your parents gave you the Centurion card? Nice. |

Haha. Funny thread.
Unless it's black, all amex are the same. You just pay your bucks to get different blings unless your record is terrible. It's all marketing crap for middle to mid-low class people. But sometimes I DO enjoy the amenities platinum provides, but who cares, gold can do most of the things too with significantly less fee. All these "shiny papers and ribbons" from amex makes you special and feel like you achieved something but...it's just a marketing. They are good at marketing just like apple. |

service lady was blowing smoke up your arse to make you feel better,
the BMW dealer I used to go to didn't even accept A/X, which I thought was kind of funny...

Yea, i don't really know why I upgraded from Gold to Platinum. I did it mainly for the companion ticket but they did away with that. Other great things about it are that they double any warantee of anything you purchase. That and it looks good in my wallet. Other than that I think I'm getting ripped off.
I do like the no hassle aspect though. If I ever have a problem, I just call them and they take care of it no questions asked. It has a concierge that I can call for ANYTHING. I also think if I buy something that I dont like, if the store wont take the return, amex will. Its a lot of little things in fine print. Can someone outline the main differences b/w gold and platinum in engrish for us?

The other thing that is awesome about Amex in general is their customer service. I call the 800 # and within 60 seconds there is a friendly AMERICAN on the line. To me that is invaluable.

And you have to be personally "invited" by AMEX. They don't just hand them out to "anyone" that spends 250K. I have seen a couple in my life, not mine personally though. |
