Artemis Has there been anything official from BMW regarding the internal code name for the G87?

Actually you just agreed with me.

The E46 M3 did, the E36 M3 did not. That's 20 years.

Same thing with the E39 M5.

E39 ended in 2003.
E36 ended in 1999.

So yeah, the side gills have been around for 4 generations of the M3 and 3 generations of the M5. That's the majority of the generations of both cars.

BMW obviously doesn't care about heritage or they wouldn't have gotten ride of the Hofmeister kink on the G series. And that design cue has been around even longer.
Uhhhh, the kink IS present, just angled differently/reimagined to coincide with the design of the car. You do have eyes, right?!

FWIW: digging this up from 2015. Back then, "M gills" were coined as, uh, one of the "well-known design icons":

Yep.

Lots of people are giving a pass to BMW designers for killing long running design cues.

Everyone seems convinced that the recent leaks show some sort of pale blue color. To my eye, it looks like Alpine White in a dimly-lit garage, shot with a $12 Android phone from 2017.

Hmmmmm. I do not love it...IF that is indeed the finished design. I am less excited to order an Individual car now. I wish the M3/4 cars didn't have that terrible front end design.....and were @$10k less....

I mean, there's a kink right there. Whether it's a kink design that you like is another story, but is is there.

Are those rear pontoons functional? Aero, ballasts, fuel cells, bird houses? So peculiar…

The CS is more than an engine tune. It also has completely different chassis tuning and M adaptive dampers.
Yes I know what it is but it's not much different . The suspension is not something a set of good coilovers can't beat. It's the same motor / same body / almost the same car .
Everyone says the same thing. Expect for the top motor journalists in the world. How would they know?

Hopefully that is not the launch colour
Hopefully not bro but look at the G80/82 launch colors Sau Paolo an ugly color. I mean yeah colors that definitely catch attention but if they had the Toronto Red, Portimao Blue or Dravit Gray it would have been better lol 😂 but regardless that car is beautiful even tho the Sao P is ughhh
