Looking at the exhausts, I now see that is an RAF/RN F-4K or F-4M with Spey engines instead of J-79s.

A straight upward climb is not only limited by the sky but by thrust and gravity. If you're staying too long you would just stall the plane and spool down in circles. That's not funny, neither training nor show.

Neptune P2. In service from 1955 to 1970. Th aircraft had a perfect safety record with the RCAF. Then they were sold to become fire bombers. Some are still in use today.
Original livery w/o the jet pods. Updated livery with jet pods. |

And now for something completely different, I present Charles Zimmerman's "flying flapjacks." The proof-of-concept V-173 prototype dates from 1942 and the operational XF5U-1 prototype did not fly before the end of World War II. In the general drawdown after the war, the F5U fell victim to cost-cutting and was destroyed before its first flight. It did do engine run-up testing and had problems with the props. The Navy decided that it was not worth further tests.
Famed aviator Charles Lindbergh flew the V-173 and, like the Vought test pilots, found that it was practically un-stallable and could be flown at very high angles of attack.

I was working a mid once and I had to call the Center for a code as our system was down for the nightly maintenance. They gave me the code 4879 (or some such code), which didn't sound right, but hey, at 0300 what does sound right?! The pilot called bake a few minutes later saying he couldn't enter the code because his transponder was broken and didn't go past a 7. THAT'S WHAT'S WRONG!!!! There is no 8 or 9 in 444444444444444transponders. |

Do drug runners actually squawk that code? Or is that something ATC can assign to their data block without the pilot knowing?

The CF-105 Arrow. If you wanted to get my Dad going, all you had to do is mention it as his Squadron was scheduled to get them instead of the used Voodoos purchased from the USAF and BOMARC missiles that couldn't even get out of their silos. Never let important defense decisions in the hands of politicians.

The US -105 went on to be a workhorse of the Vietnam war in a role it was not designed for; nothing we had, with the possible exception of the A-1 Skyraider, was well-suited for that war. We just had to make do.

He and wife had no children, so that kind of explains how he could afford to own and operate such expensive machinery on a Greyhound bus-driver's salary. He drove and she dispatched.

Has any aircraft ever looked more bad ass?
