Better yet, when the radio played music that people actually enjoy. FM radio is as dead as printed news, magazines, trade papers......basically anything printed.

Local businesses buying advertising is the only thing keeping the FM dial alive.

I remember spending half the day, waiting for the radio stations to play a song that I wanted to record on cassette; only to have the DJ talk halfway through the intro. I miss those days.

There was a radio show in the 70s on FM channel 95.5 KLOS in California, don't know if it was national, called "The Seventh Day." They would play an album in its entirety, only stopping to change from side A to side B. It was partly done for our recording pleasure. It was on Sunday night, I believe, and I was there waiting to hit the record button.

One of the radio stations here used to do the same, they called it Perfect Album Side. I think it was Carol Miller on WPLJ FM.

Yes. We are on the fringe of their signal up here. After PLJ stopped doing it, our local AOR station picked up the idea and ran with it for years.....

College station near me is entertaining. I listen to that, NPR, and a local AM news-only station. And Sirius.

I remember lying in bed at night tuning the AM dial up and down trying to find something to listen to. Way more than once I would pick up a NYC station that was playing some decent music. It had to be just the right weather conditions for the signal to skip all the way to NS and it would fade in and out but it was still better than what I had locally.

I also listen to SiriusXM. I really like it but I'm thinking of canceling because it seems like it's a frivolous expense. I'm retired and on a fixed income and need to keep things tight. Wife still works but it's only part time at home and it also gets us health insurance.

Cancel the sirius subscription. They will jump through hoops to keep you as a customer. Back before the merger, I had XM. The day I canceled, they called me to offer me 6 months for $25 or something like that. I kept it for another year at $50. I canceled again after, then they gave it to me for free for 3 months, the free for 3 months again after. This method will save you money, but they harass the shit out of you during the process. Letters, emails, text messages etc.

I missed "Get the Led Out". Was it a Led Zeppelin show?
I grew up in the sticks where we didn't always get NYC stations.

I pay $21 and change now but I will give it a try. See if they offer it to me cheaper, like you said. And yes I get tons of email from them as well offering me all kinds of "deals." I throw all their email in the trash.

You can ABSOLUTELY get it cheaper. Make no mistake. I've had Sirius XM for years now. I don't pay more than $5/month for the full service. You tell them you're canceling and they will definitely offer you that deal in the end. Never ever pay that amount of money for Sirius, it's a rip. Problem is you'll have to go through the same BS routine when negotiating with them every 6 months. Actually the last time around I managed to convince them to give me the $5 deal for 12 months. So if you like the actual stations or whatever you listen to on Sirius, it's certainly worth 5 bucks. I like being able to stream the stations (many more online).

Was getting it for $5 for a couple of years and it recently went up. It's worth $5, not $20, though.
