Could be a number of reasons but this looks like slumping sales at first blush. Is it possible that EV's aren't catching on with the public?

Outside of Tesla, I don't see many EVs around to be honest... the KIA / Hyundai / BMW Ev's are somewhat rare.

Toyota Hybrids are also everywhere but one could argue that's because they were first and have the largest market share.

I see the makings of many a new horror film.

A remake of Steven Spielberg’s Duel? Man chased by a self driving Tesla?
Christine goes EV?
Maximum Tesla?
Death Race 2030?

Quite possible. I'll just repeat it...

When you can recharge your ICE vehicle to 100% of its 400-mile range in 5 minutes. Waiting around for 30 minutes to recover just 80% range (under ideal conditions) for an expensive EV, is just not going to make market penetration at the level Govenment wants it to. Sorry, just reality. The public is not really that stupid.

Agree that charge time parity with refueling an ICE would help move the market. But, don't underestimate the nice benefit of charging at home which is probably 90 percent of most use cases like mine. It's really nice. I have truly enjoyed it.

I think at home charging is the actual issue. I think a 90% use case is actually not the case. I've tried to find the numbers on it, but I'd bet it's more like 45% of car owners can charge at home. Between single family homes, garage facility or driveway parking, and charger installation access/cost, and rentals, the number is more like 45%, if that even. The 55% to 60% of the market just doesn't accept EV charging requirements at a public charging station.

Outside of Tesla's networked infrastructure, road tripping an EV isn't a good scenario for most people.

This would be absolutely perfect for me: https://www.thedrive.com/news/the-el...miles-of-range

Exactly what I'm looking for. Flip that steering wheel to the left side and get it to North America post haste! So yes, I still want an EV, but nothing on the market that isn't a SUV or wank-fest of technology. Simple, small, light, decent range, quick. This has it all!

Notice the dash? All analog!

The internet has an answer for almost everything. Yet ask it how many households in the US currently could support at-home EV charging, and Mr Google has no definitive answer. I earlier stated I think it is just 45%. After more research I think it's more like 30%.

Hmmm.... sounds familiar. Oh must have been those killer Toyotas a few years back that were just out murdering people left and right. I've owned both Teslas and Toyotas... not sure how I've managed to survive this long.

When you start to look at apartments/condo's and then older parts of major cities with on street parking (no driveways or garage) I'd say your number is probably pretty accurate. EV's might make sense for people who can charge at home and don't do longer trips but common sense says they are not a one size fits all solution. I suspect that the folks who have already adopted EV's are the ones whose lifestyle they suit and the rest are the ones who see the challenges.

A lot of interesting points in this video. I'm not surprised at the trade in value, as I can't imagine the used market for EV's is very good.

I'm by far not a societal planner, but I would think as houses and population gets denser the need for a long-range EV with good charging network support is of more importance for the buyer, because vehicle use is geared more for long distance oriented for driving out of town for work and for weekends. High density locations where private charging is scarce coincides with a more foot-oriented lifestyle, so cars are used more for pleasure activities. Range limited EV have never made sense to me.

No manufacturer has yet introduced a convertible in the form of the 3-series or Mustang/Camero; sort of a telltale for me. Google for convertible EV and you get a bunch of vaporwear.

What's crazy is that I sat inside this EV a few months ago in their Santa Monica showroom... and ironically, it had a far better interior than a Tesla.

Since most EV's are sold on incentive programs and/or tax breaks it should be no surprise that you will take the hit on the back end in trade in value.

Cash for EV clunkers may not be far off. EV reparations?
