I actually think the rocker panel creeping up to the rear fender is one of the ugliest components. Most rock chips end up being higher near the gas tank and door it seems as well so i don’t see the point of them like the OP suggests

Agree. I told myself if the M3 ever went AWD I’d have one. I can’t warm up to the grill or hood line. I’ve really tried and can’t.

That hasn't been my personal experience, but I suppose YMMV.

Thanks for chiming in. Your content on the new car has been really helpful, especially considering the other cars you’ve been through.

I saw the video of taking delivery of the G87 and thought I recognized the voice. Then I saw the custom plate on the car… Never knew what happened to you after the Destiny days.

No skin in the game here (F90 owner). Never was and never will be an M2 customer — F87, G87, or otherwise. I actually don’t think it looks too bad. Just came here for the comments, and over 13 pages, you guys certainly didn’t disappoint.

The G87 is incredible and suer nice but also different then the CS in the way I build them and their general feel. Compared to the 1M the new M2 is much better balanced and way more power. If you like drifting and hanging the tail out all the way to work every morning, you will be happy in either especially the 1M. If you want a more balanced ride to work and something that feels and sounds super fast, get the G87. I’ve driven and owned lots of cars/BMW’s specifically and this seems quicker and faster then any M cars(M3, M3,M4,M5) that i’ve owned/driven.
Thanks for your input it’s seem like the G87 will make an impressive sophisticated daily car! Does the G87 have as much soul as the 1M?

It's interesting every time I read comments like this. I like the OG 1M, but when it debuted it was anything but loved. Now it has soul. Oh how the tides turned.

Well i remember back then most of the reviews were very positive for the 1M. The main problems were the design, the lack of an « S » engine and probably the tail happy nature. Many didn’t consider it as a « proper » M car. Now with the G87 most of the negative come from people who haven’t drive the car just like it did with the 1M. The negative are now the design and the weight.

What's so interesting about the major complaint of weight...you can't even feel it. The car literally corners on rails. I've never felt a more nimble and stable 3700+lb car.

Which is interesting because I think I recall Throttle House Thomas complained about the weight of the G87 but not so much the M240 Xdrive when him and James had it on the track…

Said pretty much the same thing that the M240 felt more nimble than it’s listed weight.

Yeah I watched that episode and that is exactly what they said. Interesting how they changed their opinions and just called it a fat pig when it absolutely doesn't feel that way.

What an odd thing to say.
Design element can’t be ‘objectively’ bad, unless design causes measurable problems with drag, or cooling, or utility, etc.

Other than that, it’s just taste and totally subjective. I think this M2 looks way better than the old one, as the old one looks like it belongs to 90s. There’s only 8 years between the old one and this one… But it looks like there’s 20+ years between them.

I totally agree. If you lie to them, and told them the car weights 3200 lbs, they’d be like ‘oh it’s so light, I can feel how nimble it is’. Just like steering feel. Many who complain about it don’t even know what it means.

Some of the best whisky in the world for the last 5-10 years has been coming out of Australia, specifically Tasmania.

Nup. Nothing at all like that unpleasant syrup known as whiskey with an e.

Now we can safely resume arguing about feminine and masculine cars.

I was curious…

E92 M3 curb weight: 3649lbs

I assume that’s with DCT. The rest of the dimensions are almost identical to the G87.

G87 listed curb weight: 3814lbs

The G87 is 165lbs heavier. I assume that is also for the automatic. That doesn’t strike me as an enormous difference - 4.5% to be exact. Hardly a fat pig by comparison for a car with far more technology

Here we have a rear wheel drive BMW M car with dimensions almost the same as the E92 M3. I think that is kind of amazing.

I've actually been thinking it's similar dimensions to the e92. That 4.5% can easily be shaved down to 3%. With the power potential and balance that has been gained, I think it's a home run.

Everyone keeps calling it a porker, so I was thinking this morning (not fully awake) about getting a license plate with something like "oinker" but realized I'd get pulled over cuz cops would assume it's about them.

OP I read through your complete long winded post but the fact is that it’s still butt ugly. And yes I saw it in person. Anytime a car needs so much discussion defending its looks you should know it’s failed in the looks department.

BMW has failed all around in the design department from cars to their super ugly SUV’s. And this is coming from a long term and multiple M cars owner. I have had to finally move away from the brand thanks to the show
G generation of crap they are putting out.
