I am more a pragmatist and the longer term issues (climate, cost of living gap dramatically closing, lack of landscape in GTA, massive debt and huge public service will bite us here eventually) bother me more than the handling of COVID19. Wife has been a hard core supporter of viscous lock down and absolute shutting of border from day 1 and is absolutely gob smacked how badly it is being handled here.

YOu can argue if she is right or wrong but she has been consistent.
My wife and I are really getting sick of the politics and direction the country is going. We've worked long and hard for what we have and we are worried it's all going to change, the winters are the shit so we hope to go south for a few months to break it up. We have talked about moving to a warmer climate but that seems to be a very difficult proposition and I'm not sure our finances can support it.

Amen. We're much younger (going to hit 40 this year) and my wife and I are sick of the direction the country is headed in too. But realistically, until it gets really bad, we'll probably stay and try to finish out our careers here.

Think Pfizer is 21 days later and Moderna which we are giving is 28 days is what I meant. Window on Moderna is 4 days

Is that what Pfizer recommends or is that what the government has decided?

I posted a link a few posts back. If it’s accurate, sounds like decision by government regulators, not Pfizer, which only tested efficacy when shots were given 21 days apart.

I won’t be surprised if other countries like the U.S. do something similar to stretch initial doses to more of the population to get some level of protection, whether supported by testing or not. Plenty of talk about getting as many doses distributed and administered ASAP and worry about second doses later. Who knows what it means for protecting the public, but it will provide good numbers for headlines for a while, I suppose.

I work in political polling and I cannot fathom where a conservative majority comes from, i just cannot find the numbers. Not just now, but for a generation. Ontario is lost, cannot see any ability to gain much ground, and without it, you need Quebec but with a strong Bloc leader that is not going to happen.

I can see JT in charge for another 10 years, honestly I can. And I say that as someone who likely sits a bit left of the god and guns crowd in this forum, though I am regarded as alt-right by the average ontario voter!

Without going too far down the political rabbit hole, everyone who isn't full on liberal is alt right or far right it seems. I think the vaccine roll out might do Trudeau some real damage, one can hope. I'm not sure how long you've been in Canada, but the liberals used to be the centrists with the NDP taking up the left and Conservatives on the right, the whole thing has shifted far left and I'd suggest that conservatives are actually centre and maybe centre left now. If my wife and I had somewhere else we could go we likely would, weather aside our concern is protecting what we've worked had to build.

And since this is the LOL thread and it's groundhog day.....

I gather a number of countries are having trouble getting enough vaccines so they have arbitrarily extended the interval to accommodate the shortfalls, Canada is now using 48 days for the pfizer vax if I'm not mistaken.

It'll be interesting to see how that impacts the efficacy, although I've also heard that the vaccine is only around 60% effective anyway.

I've given up hope that this will affect Trudeau. He's like a Teflon man it seems - to his supporters he can do no wrong, plus he's buying off this upcoming election. There are many things before this that should have affected him, but nope.

I say this as a conservative, but acknowledging in the same vein I don't approve of what Doug Ford (who is conservative for those that don't know him) is doing either, so I don't think I'm completely blind / follow the party line.

I would start a Canada thread if I could because I think we could keep it civil.

As a comparison, with a similar health care system my wife and I would be about 25K yr in front in Australia in regards to income taxes. Property taxes I will call a wash because they are much, much higher here but one would spend the delta on private health care at home. I'm going to call cost of a living a wash overall, maybe I am being too kind to Canada as there are so many hidden costs here but once COL is close, it makes no sense to me to be here given the climate and the absolutely dire landscape in the GTA. Out west would be one thing but it's just a sea of blandness here until you hit Algonquin.

Net public debt per person is double in Canada vs OZ and at some point, my wife and I will be targeted to pay for it so to speak. I see you echo those concerns.

I am an athiest, gun hating, lock down/quarantine advocate but I sit so far right of what should be the centrist party it is hilarious.
